Windows 7 Pricing Revealed

Microsoft has today revealed how much Windows 7 will cost! It seems only the Windows 7 Home Premium Retail will be cheaper at £149.99 compared to Vista Home Premium Retail at £169.99. For the other editions the cost is the same as for Vista, that sounds disappointing to me. Oh and there will be no upgrades fom Vista to Win7 to European customers! Why you ask? Because Windows 7 E will be shipped in Europe without IE8, and upgrading from Vista would mean IE8 would also be transported to the Win7 E!

Pricing. Windows 7 E Home Premium will retail for £149.99 (Vista Home Premium costs £169.99), while Pro and Ultimate stick to their Vista equivalents at £219.99 and £229.99 respectively. Where it gets complicated is because no upgrade editions of Windows 7 E will be sold in Europe. Microsoft says this is because it would port across Internet Explorer from the previous OS and put it on shaky ground with the European Commission. Frustrating yes, necessary? Let's not even go there. More importantly however Microsoft aims to counter this by selling the full edition of Windows 7 E Home Premium for £79.99 between 22 October and 31 December. This is the same cost as the upgrade edition of Vista Home Premium. It is still working on potential deals for Professional and Ultimate.

Promotion. Perhaps most exciting however is Microsoft will reward early adopters who pre-order Windows 7 E Home Premium or Professional between 15 July and 14 August by selling them for just £49.99 and £79.99 respectively. No details of stock level have been locked down yet with Microsoft saying it will respond to demand, but this certainly represents good value for money. Again more details come tomorrow at microsoft.com/uk/win7preorder.

It's because you deserve it! You drive on the wrong side of the road, use inches, foots and stuff like that and on top of all that you eat fish with chips, that combination just sucks :duh: I mean, seriously, fish and chips is like the combination of colors on this sweater:

Hehe, just kidding :s

I for one am not planning on buying Windows 7... Really, I don't have the money to spend € 600 on a PC and like another € 600 filling it up with software

lol what? Do you know why the language your speaking is called English and not American? It's because we invented it, and so we use inches/foots etc... Americans take our language and start using whatever it is you guys use instead of inches. That's an infringement of our damn british heritage...lol

Oh and yeah me too I can't afford the £150 for Win7 Home Premium...although Microsoft offered me free Vista Server edition for being a student! Although I didn't take that option, I will jump at the chance for any Win7 version they offer me... :s

I guess I was being a bit too optimistic about pricing when I read a certain article. Over $300 for the full retail of ultimate? You gotta be frickin kidding me. I'm glad I didnt have to pay for that Vista garbage but I was planing on buying 7...til I saw this.

Looks like I'll be one of the 10s of thousands of seeders to a torrent of 7 Ultimate :duh:

@ donizme

The British called themselves the first "Americans" so technically we didnt take anything, you brought it here :s

I pay shit to get Vista, now they want me to pay some more to atone for their mistakes?

WTF!

They should offer free upgrade for Vista user!

No wonder pirate lives :tease:

As I have said, Windows Seven - Vista Finally Fixed, should be the original name.

I wish the media would stop saying there are 6/7 versions of Windows 7 and it's so confusing...a total exaggeration.

There are 2 versions for UK Home Users

1. Windows starter edition - missing many 'nice' features from UI, can't change desktop background, this is for people who have netbooks or are cheap...2. Windows 7 Home Premium - Has all the ;pretty' features but missing some business and encryption features.
