You can use a free server(s) only if does not matter,

  • how old the software there is (most are outdated and new things do not work there);
  • if you do not need nameservers (most of them have been blacklisted; and you can not use your own domain)
  • if is not matter if someone can watch your site or not.

Most of the free servers will be blocked by WOT, Adguard and adblock.
For example, the recent forums requires at least php 5.4, MySQL 5.6, etc., but free servers usually have much older versions.

Usually is only php 5.2 and MySQL 5.1 and blacklisted nameservers.

000webhost & Hostinger are the same folks.

I've used 000 for years already.

Sort of limited features & no real support - but very little downtime & quite good as it is 100% free.

They also give free subdomains if desired, or you can reg. your own domain.

Free domains can be found here too:

Some are very good - some are just OK.

I personally do not know any free hosting server at the moment, which is not blacklisted. Thus, their use is almost impossible.

Just a little info to add, FYI:

My current account with 000 is mostly to have a totally separated email address.

It is working perfectly.

All my emails there come through, no problems.

Of these, what is offered there, you can use only the .tk,(all others are blacklisted domains) and it is also only up to 1 year for free.

For the next year you need to pay.

Moreover, it is in beta stage.

Some similar domains are also available, for example .ml; .cf; .ga; .gq and .tk.

I have been testing a whole bunch of free domains which are pointed to a simple test page of mine on a paid domain.

As I said before - some are good & some are not so good.

Blacklisting is a vague concept which seems to matter alot in some regions and not at all in others.

It does not seem to matter where I am UNLESS it affects email access, which happened a little, once.

Of the 12 free domains I am using currently - there are 2 which completely suck:

vo.to and do.to

Besides having email that uses my domains - I also use a very nice, free monitor app which is listed here:

http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2126

It tells me whenever the HTTP access is messed up in any way.

(This app also shows some simple stats regarding tests vs. times failed.)

And=>

SIlly as it may seem, the free hosting, email & domain from 000 has been very, very reliable.

I have tried a bunch of free hosting services in the past, and most have dried up and blown away, but that one has stuck around and if anything - gotten more reliable over time.
