It contains all driver files and the control center for Realtek HD-Audio devices for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Shall try this version when I get home.

As I know the previous on 2.76 screwed with my Microphone quality (It would go in and out, sort of like the feature in Raidcall where it'll pick up on your voice at a certain volume) but gets annoying.

So I'm hoping this one fixes that issue.

I've also had some problems with my mic. Also the Realtek drivers that came for my laptop (Acer Aspire v3-772g) also included the Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater program for sound boosting. The newer Realtek drivers don't support this program.

i still use the ones that came with my win 8 computer even the Realtek site gives you a warning they may mess up your computer :)

Audio drivers available for download from the Realtek website are general drivers for our audio ICs, and may not offer the customizations made by your system/motherboard manufacturer. To be sure you obtain the full features/customizations provided in your original audio product, please download the latest drivers from your system/motherboard manufacturer's website.

I know the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

But for the ones that come from your system/motherboard manufacturer, do they even get updated if hardware isn't even that recent anymore?

Only way i would update mine if i put a new sound card in that were newer than the drivers i have .. Only thing updates for audio drives are good for is newer hardware than you have unless you upgrade it yourself .

this what pcsupport.about.com say about every update

As is typical with Realtek audio driver updates, there are no listed feature additions or fixes. This update was only released to improve compatibility with newer hardware that contains the Realtek audio chipset.

Note: Because you're likely not to gain much by updating, I don't recommend you install the update unless you were asked to do so by your hardware manufacturer's technical support or you're trying to solve an issue with your Realtek-based sound card/chipset and reinstalling the drivers is a wise troubleshooting step.

"As is typical with Realtek audio driver updates, there are no listed feature additions or fixes". Not true.

"Support Windows 10" in README.TXT hence the slight changed convention in the naming of the archive.

Plus google for "realtek high cpu" or "realtek sxs" and you will see that, sometimes (not often, just sometimes), some major vendors don't update drivers past 1 year after the launch and it's wise to upgrade your OEM drivers under certain conditions (let's say if you want a reasonable DPC or if you don't want your Event Log flooded by errors, if you care about these things). But, alas, you might in the process loose the Dolby HT/AA, SRS, SonicRadar, MaxxAudio etc features of your OEM package. Unless you can bring them back, which is sometimes possible.

I remember back when on windows 7 i updated them a lot always was more trouble than they worth . Lost sound before , Broke mic etc. If just leave them alone and don't try fix whats not broke they don't break : )

Its not like you ever see a update for these via Microsoft update like you do other drivers no ways , When I bought this computer witch came with win 8.. I decided to change the way i done things and update drivers quite different than i use too.

COnfirmed.

This and most likely future official releases will break your Mic.

Breakage of mic => Your voice will go in/out and not be smooth like in the last stable release 2.75 which doesn't have this issue.
