Understanding space occupied by Virtual Machine

Recommended Posts

Recently I installed VMware Virtual Machine 10 in my PC with Windows 7 Home Premium.

The guest operating systems installed is Windows 7 Home Basic and also installed Office 2014 Preview.

My question is where I can find the amount of space occupied in hard disk and still empty for virtualization.

Thanks for the help.

why not open your VM and look at the hard drive?

if you're looking for the folder where the VM is saved, that would be in the documents folder.

Great. Found unused folders and deleted them. My hard disk now have sufficient space. Not as before that was in red.

Thanks for the help.

One additional question:

In the documents folder is my guest operating system. Where are the software install using the guest operating system.

Since I installed office 2016 there, is this application also stored there, or some place else?

Thanks for the help.

the virtual machine image is saved in the host machine. whatever you installed in it, remains inside the guest

So, in terms of hard disk, installing the application in the hard disk or installing it with the guest operating system, the occupied the same amount of space.

The advantage of virtual machine is that you can used different operating system and also that you can test different software without the danger to affect your hard disk.

Any other advantage, please

Thanks for the help.
