jalaffa
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Users should install the 32-bit version if they are using 32-bit browsers. If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively. Thanks to sternog for the update.Download

That's old school I never used in my browser in years . I use to install it to use some programs but kept it disabled in my browser . I dont have no Java depended programs anymore so I dont even have it installed . I'm not going install it to run one or 2 programs . I just found alternative programs that do the same thing with out the security risk. :)

banned
This version actually installs on Windows XP, whereas I used to be limited to Java 7 releases. There is a warning message during install however, recommending a newer versions of Windows (which of course I just ignore). If I experience any issues, I'll just go back to Java 7. Cerberus
Not really many websites even use Java anymore. That's old school ...Actually Java is used in most all electronic devices including your microwave. ;) Even new cars use java in interactive systems. Java has moved away from computers because of the so called bad rap it got but wasn't its fault. Since Java programming is simplier then lets say c+ or c++ it was easy and fast to program a application. You can accomplish so much more using less code then other programming languages. Its very popular still in colleges since so many devices use Java. I have nothing against Java, just against those that create malicious programs but this can be done with any programming language, not just Java so again I don't quite understand how Java is so bad in the computer (home user) world. "Security Risk" = End user not educated, sorry but true.

I'm talking about windows computers wereJava is the biggest vulnerability for US computers http://www.csoonline.com/article/2875535/application-security/java-is-the-biggest-vulnerability-for-us-computers.htmlSecunia has released individual reports for eleven European countries, Australia, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia and results show a similar trend.http://www.cyberdefensemagazine.com/java-poses-the-biggest-security-risks-to-pcs-in-us/There's is no use to install something when you have no need for it on your computer that's a "Security Risk" :)Back in the old days you could just go to web site that used Java and catch a virus . Its always been a threat . I remember back when Microsoft stole it from SUN once and almost got sued and they had to discontinue Microsoft Java .Most Websites today dont use it because it was easy to catch a virus from . There all using it's second cousin Java Script witch is the biggest thereat on websites today.

steven36
I dont have nothing against Java but I never used in my my browser when I use it for a very longtime . As BALTAGY said they disable the plugin in Firefox for it by default . I use to use it for J Downloader to download from sites like Mega But Mega Downloader updated so I dont need it any more . They say most people used it for Minecraft but you dont need it for it anymore . So there will be many not using it unless they have apps that support it, a lot things are going away from it as far as windows. You don’t need Java for Minecraft anymore!https://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/you-dont-need-java-for-minecraft-anymore/25622

Tell that changes Flash is still needed . :) Once Shumway comes out in stable Firefox i want need flash at all in Firefox it will be better than chrome because it will work for everything . :showoff:
Cerberus
security risk = anything online periodYou cant blame the programming language because A holes use it for bad things. You can make any code malicious but it is up to the end user to educate themselves on how to protect against it. Heck your tv is probably hacked and you don't even know it. lol
