Dropbox for Gmail Easily Adds Dropbox Files to Emails

Chrome: Dropbox released the beta for their new Chrome extension, Dropbox for Gmail today. As the name suggests, the extension makes it easy to instantly add a link to a Dropbox file directly from the Gmail web app.

When you compose a message, you'll see a Dropbox icon at the bottom. Just click that, select the files you want to include from your Dropbox account, and they'll get shared with the recipient. It's simple, but gets the job done in a few less clicks. It seems to be in beta at the moment, but we didn't have any problems with it.

Hi

It is a great way to promote Google Chrome, at least for me, over Internet Explorer, which is my default browser now.

I totally dislike Dropbox. For me the best is Tresorit, one of the most secured cloud service. I have 51GB. I guess is enough for the moment. :showoff:

Can you please post your reasons for totally disliking Dropbox ..

Anything not client side encrypted can be assumed to be spied on, but barring NSA snooping, Dropbox is by far the most insecure, based off some of the mistakes I've seen them reported to make security wise that nobody else has.

Thank you laryy for the interesting links. No argument abt Dropbox privacy problems. But there are also unique Dropbox features that can't be easily replaced by alternatives, where strict privacy isn't that important.

I was aware about some Dropbox privacy issues so I gave up using it for automatic backuping my applications data long time ago. I'm missing it though since it was very comfortable arrangement.

The way I'm using Dropbox now is shared folders only - the unique Dropbox feature.

I've created and shared special DB folders with some trustful friends of mine and love the ease of sharing files that way .

You just put a file in a Dropbox folder on your machine (you can encrypt your files earlier for privacy if you care) and that's it. It gets synchronized and appears in Dropbox folder on your friend's machine automatically.

It's worth to note that file synchronization process is almost instant (in case of small files at least).

So we were trying to utilize this Dropbox functionality as a kind of private chatbox or Instant Messenger, by creating and then editing a txt/rtf/docx document placed in a shared folder. Worked quite satisfactory.

They used to be the best. They started to act like retards and added limitations to how many tresorits (folders) you can make. So basically you have to pay to make more folders ? The limit is set to 3. F**k that.Someone should have been fired in that company, not promoted.

They have also free option but only with 3GB.
I have got 50 GB free promo when they have released. I got another GB with option for android device.
The most annoying thing is that your account is limited to 3 devices. I have a PC, a laptop, a tablet pc with windows and one smartphone. Sometimes I have to unlink a device in order to connect another.
But privacy is best here. Servers are located in Switzerland, not in the USA where NSA monitors everything.

WOW 3 GB for free for backup of app. data would do for me.

I'm looking for a new SAFE place for backuping my applications data. But would definitely prefer an arrangement similar to that available in Dropbox.

It means : I'd relocated working applications data folders of my main programs and placed them in Dropbox folder. I'd set it once and could forget it. All important data while created - was simultanously synced online and available as a backup in case of problems.

Would such arrangement be possible with Tresorit ? Do they have any client app installed offline that could provide shared folder functionality ? Or is it only just another (even maybe safer) cloud storage disc ?

Hi, @Mona,

Please be noticed that Tresorit does not have a web interface. The whole activity is based on clients.

I can make a full review for you this evening if you are interested, of course.

Also tell me if is necessary for both clients, android/windows.

There are plenty of reviews online. No need for another. I don't read the ones that are biased towards a particular viewpoint anyways.

Joe, if you have them handy - post here some links.

If not - don't bother, I can google them myself.
