Basic units related

I have wireless Broadband with 384kbps plan (i.e. 48kBps)

I have a software named "NetTraffic" which displays the internet speed..

So my Query is that even when at full download speed (i.e. 48kBps) NetTraffic never showed traffic speed as 48kBps or 384kbps ....

So I checked the settings of "NetTraffic" .

It had a section called Basic units:

It had :

Amount of data : (in drop-down) > iB, B, ib, b

Date rate : (in drop-down) > iB/s, B/s, ib/s, b/s

I Tried every combination of it .. still I never got 48kBps or 384kbps displayed

I know that b = bits , B = Bytes. 8b = 1B.

I don't know what "iB" or "ib" is :( !! I googled it but no luck there..

Will any1 please explain this to me..

Check Binary multiples of bytes in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_rate_units

But What about "ib or iB" ??? :wtf:

I didn't find much information about that.

You can set Amount of data to "B" and Data rate to "B/s" . Then it will show speed in kB/s.It showed my download speed correctly with this settings.

I will post later if I find more information

OK ..what is your download speed and what did it show

.. will you please send some screenshots here..

Take a look at mine..

I'm downloading a YouTube video at about a constant speed 48kBps.. But NetTraffic shows a constant about 100 kB/s (instead of 48kBps or 384kbps)

 That's what I don't understand !! :wtf:

I came across KiB, MiB and etc but not ib/iB.

The way I look at it is you are talking about binary in powers of 2's you should use the definition of binary prefixes as defined by the IEC (http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/binary.html) and in powers of 10's use SI definition.

I think it's their way of saying the data are shown using both binary prefixes and SI.

For me the graph was not constant and it was showing the same speed that IDM showed.

You can try other programs like Rainmeter , DU Meter , cfosspeed to check your speed.

OK.. then maybe I have tha faulty nettraffic software..

But Rainmeter , DU Meter looks very nice ..I'll try out both..

Thank you very much for the suggestions.. :)

PS: I already have cfosspeed.. But dont know what it is usefull for or not..
