You could have a look at this;

https://www.soluto.com/boot-time

SORRY.. but IMO and by the clock.. Soluto slows a system down way more than it helps it... and it will only lend an end point as to what programs are slowing you down.. rarely if there are serious errors present... JMO

You will probably need to do several things..

1. Your pagefile was probably recreated.. possibly could even be heavily fragmented.. or adjusted automatically.. check settings and follow instructions on setting it properly.

2. Check the Event Viewer for any number of issues.. look for more serious Errors and work your way backwards. Fixing these issues may actually lead you to a resolution.. even chasing down corrupted or fragmented system files. Even certain programmatic databases which may have to be updated could be effecting it but still pointing to an error there still... The error logs once checked should be cleared if they exist as these can become LARGE in size and when fragmented or being read/wriitten on startup, after a system failure can cause boot slow down.. There is a batch file for this I believe but not sure for 8.1...

3. You may need to check your registry integrity, and defrag the registry, then use a DLL fixer like DLL suite to re-register any files whos entries may be missing info or incorrect...

4. Check through running services and make sure that any un-necessary service may have been reactivated or changed due to fall back on defaults do to corrupted registry..

5. Defrag the drive... and check your hardware connections internally...

6. Driver checks.. pretty simple as these could revert as well.. and nonsystem drivers may not be used after such a failure. Check Device Management for the System...

7. Check startup entries and make sure targets of those entries exist.. as well as checking scheduled tasks.. ( Cleanup as well )

8. Run sfc scannow ( instructions online ) and attempt system repair...

9.. If this fails you may want to get a battery and reinstall Windows... to avoid all of this problem... and/or get a system that has not had its motherboard or hardware shorted out... ( possibility )...

10. You may also want to generally check your settings... throughout your system...

Programs to help you with your tasks...

Windows 7 Manager

Ultimate Defrag 4

( Windows ) :o

WINAso Registry Optimizer

DLL Suite

Screwdriver.. :P

There are a few more intricate methods of fixes specific areas but these may help get you there and should be a part of maintenance for a heavy user.. anyway.. couldn't hurt..

In the end if it doesn't work you could always do the Lenovo Truck Tire test.. find that one appealing for entertainment purposes.

PS/ You could also be experiencing this issue if certain infections exist.. just a possibility.. but I think you will find the real issue near the beginning... of those listed...

You may do whatever you want, but you can not improve it. If don't believe, take to waste some weeks and refresh then.

Refresh Windows installation - it is the simplest, fastest and the most reliable.

Should HX1’s correct suggestions be beyond your skill base.

Without wasting tons of time & wasted effort attempt the following:

From the explorer window right click your System Drive & select Properties / Tools & check the drive for errors. If found and repaired Reboot & see if issues are resolved.

If no errors are found or still there after restart open the command prompt as Admin

Type: sfc /scannow & press ENTER

Reboot

If your issues have gone all is good. If not you have deeper file / registry corruption or component issues.

At this point it is worth checking the health of your hard drive before proceeding further, as this can be a major reason for slow booting too.

Next step would be to restore the latest back up copy of your system image. If you have not taken one then that just down to you as the following fun of reformatting & re-installing your apps will take a quite a few hours.

Finally TAKE AN IMAGE OF YOUR SYSTEM DRIVE!!! & it update regularly. As when the proverbial crap hits the fan again at some future date you don’t have to waste further time.

I find Soluto helpful for those less technically minded as it gives you a list of what loads and how long they take - you can then make decisions, uninstall Soluto and make changes.

But each to their own... :-)
