The only one thing, which can recommend - use a boot disk or USB. Boot from it and remove installed updates. It is recommended to remove all, but You may do it step-by-step. Clean your computer of old files and then run it normally. If runs then normally, don't update nothing, but scan Windows files for errors. If there isn't errors or they are repaired, we can continue.
The second option is that as soon as is possible, do a new and clean installation.

History has shown that such errors usually cannot be repaired.

I don't know if it's just me but I've observed that window 8 and later has some issue with some 3rd party apps and sometimes with its own.

I've have never suffered as much BSODs and reformats in any other OSs other than 8 and later.

And guess what's the funny thing here - Windows hurts itself when some 3rd party apps conflits with it.

Such a shame on MS.

I agree. For example, having Comodo Internet Security caused me to BSOD every single time. Using Microsoft Toolkit 2.5.2 caused Blue Screens as well. And get this, ONLY after installing windows updates. This is my 4th reinstall. I've become so accustomed to it that all my user files are on an external or different partition (using NTFS junctions.) Word for the wise, if your copy of windows is not genuine, DO NOT install any windows updates. As a matter of fact, turn windows updates off and rely on your antivirus to handle the vulnerabilities whether legit or not.

I don't know who is the NOOB PROGRAMMER team Microsoft has right now, but man, are they sure screwing up. They don't know how to write error tolerant code or catch exceptions.

Have a close look in MS-support WHAT an update does, and if you REALLY NEED it ! I always check them one by one and then choose which update(s) to install.

Most updates are totally not neccesary and often do more harm then any good...........

For me, the culprit was only this update: KB3013769. I just restored the PC to the restore point which I made it manualy before to install it, then I've put the update to Hidden, to get rid of it.

Advice!

Never click INSTALL, or, NEXT, or, YES, like a clicking-monkey! Check and double-check before to do something.

Oh yes. I've forgot to mention some conflicting apps in this regard. 2nd time I've confirmed that after installing the UX theme utility from uxstyles.com, I suffered reformat again.

So, from this, what I can asume is, some instructions are injected in some major (may be minor too) windows updates to verify default states of system files. If the files arn't found in their default states or prevented/modified the codes generated by those files, windows 8.x breakes itself in the middle getting its tongue on its a**h**e.

And wait, it doesn't do that for reputed vendors. For example, say, stardock instead of uxstyles. You can use window blinds from stardock without any problems but not uxstyles (they have told it as 'possibly bugged' and it is because they can't fix if there's nothing to fix).

Going with the flow of windows what I can say is, they are restricting users within themselves regardless of one's own tastes. With this strategy, they are compelling people to buy their product instead of a third party who could be better than them. They can't do this with reputed 3rd parties because they know the ugly cheap thruth will come out that way.

Glad you solved your problem, I think it's better to not update a working OS quickly, I personally do care to update my AV and Browser much more than anything else

If you can't resist updating your OS, I recommend you to backup your entire C from time to time if your D partition is enough, so you can always restore it once you are in trouble

I stopped installing tuesday crap bullshit several months ago, i rarely install updates if they aren't super seriously important. Everyone knows about Microsoft fuckups, so just be careful. I guess the best way to never get problems with updates is when you install Windows as shipped and use it as is, without any third-party installations. Microsoft gives a shit about compatibility, they don't seem to care anymore.

It is a Microsoft problem - regardless of Windows 7 or Windows 8. ;)

Airstream_Bill

It has happened to me twice in the last 6 months. Windows 8.1 64bit. Weather I am right or wrong I turned off FAST Startup and I have had no problems with anything. I can access the BIOS, access Recovery Panel etc. I am leaving it OFF. Just ME.

“A system drive image a day keeps a reformat away”

Without being OTT at least take one before any major software changes, new app installs etc. :)

@locoJoe...As I know you will mate….As long pc users update their system images beforehand with whatever app that floats their boat.

Should the brown smelly sticky stuff hit the fan after apply new MS offerings. At least they can get back in action again without too much hassle.

No, it wasn't with xp. Well, you can tell that now it's not a part of windows. This sh!t has started with 7 and tighten in later versions. I feel pity as I use such a OS where I'm not allowed to change the color of titlebar font without any 3rd party apps.

Why the fcuk msft doesn't understand that if the give basic customization rights to users, most of the won't risk modifying their system files for customizing.

I think, they are trying to destroy the 3rd party developer field for windows who does'nt pay them a penny.
