A new version of TeraCopy is currently being rewritten from scratch. The goal is to make it faster and more extensible.

TeraCopy 3 beta is expected to be released early next year.

Upcoming features

A new version of TeraCopy is currently being rewritten from scratch. The goal is to make it faster and more extensible. Planned features include:

  • Unlimited number of files, keep file list on disk instead of memory.
  • Immediate start of copying instead of waiting for calculation of total files size.
  • Verify copied files with MD5/SHA-1 instead of CRC32, option to create .md5/.sha file list.
  • Show file list as browsable folders, show only failed files.
  • One window for multiple file transfer operations.
  • “Save bandwidth” mode

TeraCopy 3 beta is expected to be released early next year.

Update from December 7:

The new copy engine is ready and shows a good speed with both large and small files. Testing was done with a single 8 Gb file and 9 000 small files (300kb in size). In both cases speed was on a par or slightly faster than in Windows copy. MD5 hash calculation was on during the large file copy. Small files copying speed improved a lot after disabling Windows Defender.

An 8Gb file is too small to test on, they should have tried an 8GB one.

I use teracopy.

It's faults are, it is rarely updated, it's only at 2 after I have been using it for at least 8 years.

It also can just stop transferring files and that's a pain.

Other than that, it's o.k. nothing brilliant.

@iih1 thats nice.... :)

Anyway, except for the extra and pro features. In my own experience/opinion, copying files is much faster than windows system copy.

1- me too

2- that's right , i have been using for as long as i can remember (i don't know exactly when but am sure it was long time ago)

3-that's happen sometimes when u transfer some data to a volume with a fragmented free space & low space (even if it is enough) & adding more files to the list (copy queue) & and other reasons that i cant remember for the moment try avoiding this cases and u will be OK ^^

4- it is & if it stop transfer just hit stop and after that copy & move depending on ur situation and skip all duplicated files (if u hit move , than don't forget to delete the duplicated files in the source that ur copying from after ur done )

Teracopy 2 in Windows 7 is slower than the standard Windows copier. Perhaps version 3 will rectify this. I'm currently using FastCopy which I've integrated into Directory Opus (my preferred copy and file manager)
