Skype 6.22.64.107

Skype is a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to anyone else on Skype, anywhere in the world. And even though the calls are free, they are really excellent quality. If you and your friends, family or business contacts are using webcams, you can also make free video calls. You can even call landlines and mobile phones at really cheap per minute rates (and there's no setup or subscription fee).

Thanks to sternog for the update.

Installed but still the same

This has been mentioned more than once times with different user but it looks like staff responsible for front page update does not want to listen to anyone.

Use the msn file or full installation on front page or.

If you want online installation use the link below:

Here are correct links:

However, You may need to remove the previous version before, and only then may be installed at a new one.

Kalju,

Why should remove the previous version before? I've had installed version 6.22.64.107 over 6.22.64.106 and all is ok.

I said - maybe. Just sometimes there are problems. And it seems that you do not know these things very much.

After all You may get error message, "Please Restart" because previous installation was not finished correctly.

While you're in the meantime already been made hundreds of times Restart etc. You may get message - cannot uninstall, installer missing. It means, new installer cannot uninstall Your previous version, so You need find installer for currently installed version, etc. There may be much more problems.

That's why I said, You may be uninstall/remove previous version.

___________

And a bit more, here I have two computers - in one is mostly always necessary to remove the previous version before installing new, and the other does not have this problem never. Yet both have exactly the same content.

Kalju,

You're right! You said ”may need”.

And, I asked a question, not a mark of how well I'm doing with computers.

msi installer is corrupt, it won't install, it complains about a corrupt cab file.

You need to use the EXE if you are upgrading.

This has been true for the last few versions.

nope, you're wrong. I ALWAYS use the msi installer, i just uninstall the previous version first and it ALWAYS work.

When I don't uninstall the previous version, I can't install, because the installer says that another version is already installed.

This time is different, its an error about "product.cab" being corrupted.

Ok, so I finally managed to download the installer w/o corruption (by not using a download manager), but after installing, it still shows 6.22.64.106 in the about box.

There's something definitely wrong here.

I uninstalled the previous version before installing, obviously.

further analisys shows that SkypeSetup_6.22.64.107.msi is identical to SkypeSetup_6.22.64.106.msi (identical hashes)

These clowns should really get their crap together before releasing "new" versions.

  1. Definitely wrong is that You do not read, what I have suggested to do.
  2. If this also don't help, then is Your System damaged. Repair it and everything works without any problems.

Sometimes the question is do you really need the newest version? What did they change in this build anyway? Changed 3 lines of code I guess (107-104).

jvidal,

Please tell me why is better to use msi installer instead exe installer?

You must uninstall the previous version before to use the new msi installer.

If, for uninstall, you use a program like Revo, it will delete the most traces, including program's settings.

After installing the new version, you have to set back the settings used for the previous version.

If you use the exe, the program will upgrade to the newer version keeping your settings too and in very rare cases will ask to reboot the machine.

This means less work, for the same results.

Bottom line, your PC, your rules. If you don't agree with my method, it's enough if you ignore it. No need to write a novel for the new Skype version.

Uninstalling Skype from control panel retains it's settings. I don't use Revo or other uninstaller tools.

The exe version used to include some Facebook stuff for example (and maybe other crap?), don't know if it still does, haven't tried it since.

Skype never asked me to reboot the PC.

I installed the msi version and it shows 6.22.64.107 in the about screen.

Because the official stable version is still 6.21.0.104: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

Thanks a lot for this information!

If someone is confused:

Using the online download link will give you the latest version - version 6.22.64.107

Using the offline installer download link will give you the older version - version 6.21.0.104

Using this offline installer download link will give you the latest version - version 6.22.64.107

You can see the release notes at: What's new in Skype for Windows desktop? (updated for the previous version - 6.21)

By the way, the ones who are updating the frontpage should include the release notes link.

i still can't get the msi installer. EVERY time I download it, it has a different checksum (before you start ranting, it's not my PC, this is THE ONLY program i have trouble downloading, everything else I download is fine), there's obviously something wrong with the skype dl servers...

After downloading the file SkypeSetup_6.22.64.107.msi with chrome (not using an accelerator/manager) and installing it, i get v .106.

The installer is identical to SkypeSetup_6.22.64.106.msi, byte-by-byte.

If I download using a DM, i get a corrupt file.

@jvidal

No problems here, .msi file downloaded with IDM and installed without issues.

However, I do agree with khatulistiwa that it's strange that v.6.22.64.107 is coming AFTER v.6.22.81.105

I guess they just put a random number, and that only the last three digits will show which one is the latest version.
