AX64 Time Machine v1.4.1.24 - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

OK last night I was bored. Started reading some stuff over at Wilders. I was hearing some good news about AX64 Time Machine v2.xx. I have been holding at version 1.4.1.24 (The last stable build of v1.xx). Anyways I decided to move on and install v2.0.0.528. The installer said it needed to close and that AX64 v1 should be uninstalled first. I uninstalled v1 via add/remove programs and then was prompted to reboot. I rebooted and immediately was greeted by a BSOD. I stopped, smoked a little, had a drink and thought about it. Finally I decided the first thing to try was fighting fire with fire. Since my backup was safe on an external drive and I had made a bootable USB drive with AX64 I decided to try and fix AX64s fuckup with AX64 itself. It worked! I was back up and running with out issue in less than 5 mins.

The Good > AX64 v1.4.1.24 can and has restored my system perfectly on more than one occasion. Albiet this last occasion it fixed its own fuckup! (the other couple of times it was my own fault) But still it fixed it! I mean isnt that the one and only real important thing when it comes to using a backup utility?

The Bad > I have tried to uninstall AX64 v1.4.1.24 again and with the same result. I am tired of restoring my system!

The Ugly > Normally I would and still do consider a program that uninstalls with a BSOD to be undesirable and unwanted on my system. On the other hand except for the act of uninstalling AX64 v1.4.1.24 it has never failed me. I have restored my system 3 times now. All 3 times it was perfect and swift. So I am in a conumdrum. Common sense says, "if it works why uninstall it just to try a newer version" but it just flips my griddle knowing that I should be able to uninstall this soft with out issue and try v2 :wtf:

OK..how about that...Uninstall and reboot in safe mode...than use bcedit / bootrec/fixmbr...

Or maybe U should uninstall AX64 and make a system file backup and after that reboot..If BSOD apears reboot in safe mode and use the system file backup....sry I used AX 64 TM but its too young...Good but not ready!! IMO...

This is why I use Acronis....Anyway good luck :)

@locoJoe...If my memory serves me well AX64 V1 once installed has a menu option to enable its Startup manager. When uninstalling if this has not been previously disabled errors can / will occur on re boot.

Yes, I had disabled that prior to uninstalling. I believe the culprit is that since installing AX64 I have repartitioned my physical HDD 0 altho I did not alter the C:/ drive where my OS is installed. I have no proof this is just a gut feeling.

Last night AX64 started giving me errors about a driver not initializing. I am done with AX64. I used to be one of its biggest fans, sad. Since AX64 gives BSOD after uninstalling I manually removed it. Probably will never try it again. I am now using AOMEI Backupper Standard. It seams very nice and I get good reports about it. I have never performed a restore with it, I only hope it restores as good as it backups!
