Negative Posting

Recommended Posts

I feel things are starting to get a little out of hand here just lately, people I think should take a step back and think about things a little before making these negative comments. We are all different and we all have different circumstances as to why we join and participate on these forums,I think the basic principle for me anyway is that we are not all in a position to afford some of the software made available on here and ok some people get a little excited when they see maybe their favourite programme going for free, but should we reply with negative posts and complaints?,would it not be nicer to instead try to help or advise them on a particular problem they might be having?.

Another important factor to remember as well is the age gap, what! I hear people saying, although I am getting a little long in the tooth a lot of people on here are not and that I feel is another reason as to why some posts are targeted with a little more 'youthful zest' shall we say.

I think that their is an argument on both sides, are both sides right?maybe but as I said earlier do we really need to keep posting these comments all the time?.

Maybe people could contribute on this post and give us their ideas on how we can address this issue?.

I am not saying age is an issue on here by the way but I would some people maybe be a little more tolerant if they knew they were dealing with someone under the age of eighteen say?.

So I am suggesting that we simply state on our profiles on joining over or under 18.

Privacy I think must always be maintained but for most people I think that would be acceptable.

A final point for me to make,I am not blaming age for what is happening on here,It is probably a lot of different things as I am sure we will find out when people reply and post on here.

I think if we all remember that we are all here to help one another in this large family on here of ours things will get better very quickly.

Replies,Suggestions below fellow Nsaners.

Every sugguestion is based on a point, the core element on which your description stands. We want to know that.

Ballistic Gelatin

Suggestion: Certain posters need to refrain from using profanity so often. (You know who you are.)

It adds little, if anything, to the discussions.

doesn't pointing judging fingers at other users count as negativity too? i mean, unless someone is directly attacking you, taking offense on the words someone chooses to use is childish imho.

It's very simple, we are all here voluntarily and like guests. Here applies these rules, what the owner has set.

If anyone needs for something that is not allowed here - make your own webpage and everything is resolved.

There are you owner and can set rules.

Having been here for quite a while I can easily compare Nsane to the real world. Its filled with people you will like and others not so much.

Thats the way it is. If you dont like the neighborhood you'll just have to move on.

would it not be nicer to instead try to help or advise them on a particular problem they might be having?.

He makes a great point here! I have seen countless of times members being laughed at, ridiculed and literally insulted out of their requests for help.

The best example is when someone (perish the thought) asks or talks about Windows 7 or XP. You will get a howling pack of jackals to rip you to shreds.

Same thing for someone asking help for a program he uses and gets either laughed at for using it or just a simple suggestion to use something else without even bothering to try and really help

the member in question.

And even if you did have something better the proper etiquette is to try and help first with whats at hand and if it doesn't work then you can suggest something else.

You cant go slapping a child around because he still hangs on to his old teddy bear. You just try to gently coax him out of it.

@Jobe,I agree fully with what you have written and that by @lurch234.

When one looks at some members request for help with software and related problems and the answers some nsaners give it makes one wonder what type of people write these comments.

I for one have noticed the comments with a problem of nsanedown frontpage I have been having since October 26, and many others too and the way we are told what to do.

I am 75 years of age and my upbringing was always to listen to others and respect them no matter what but it would seem that many think it is OK to sit/hide behind a computer and be rude.

To all fellow nsaners be you a Veteran,Member or VIP or whatever, show respect and respect will be given.

I agree with what lurch234 , But this is a very touchy subject . They are different kinds of negative.. Because of a few bad apples who think its cool to cuss in public you want to shift the blame on people that are under 18?

This not a adult forum , you would just cause them to not tell the truth about there age when joining is all. Seems to me a lot of people go off the deep end at times when told something don't work right . But if it don't work right they need to be told it saves others the hassle of downloading and messing with it. If they cant deal with being told things don't work right they to find a new hobby.

As far as a site thats not going have any negative post its never going happen without turning the site into a ghost town . People can live in there own little fantasy world were they think everything works as we wish they would. But this not reality .

If people would just debate the topic instead of trying to debate the person or belittle them things would be much better . The thing is if we were just a bunch of robots who didn't express our opinions this would be a very boring site . We would never know what really worked or didn't work . I come here to hear others opinions and download some good software . But the latter I can find at any blog or forum . What we can do without is the cussing and the belittling others to try make themselves look holier than thou. This is very childish and just as many people over 18 do it as under 18.

Its not cool to look down on someone even if your helping them . Chances are they may know something you don't .. And if you ever belittle them to much why helping them when time comes that you need there help . They want be willing to help you at all. The moral to this story is no one knows or haves everything.

Do not forget one simple fact - You are useful and needed exactly as long as you have something to give. (NB: this is not my fancy.)

Well I find your post useful , you know how to make good portables thats never been my cup of tea making them. I do not have the patience.. only I'm good at testing stuff and I use to be very good at posting software but for the last 4 years my patience has grown thin doing that . ;)

There are some generic rules of happy forum-ing:

1. Ignore, if you don't agree with something. There's no need to criticise.

2. If someone is assulting you, press the report button. Staff will remove the post if it worth removing. Don't fight back.

3. Obey forum's rule book.

After all, prevention is better than cure.

Speaking ONLY for myself:

I always try to keep my posts/replies everywhere I make any mannerly, considerate & helpful.

Any help provided to me from anyone is hugely appreciated.

Those who post nastiness in reply or are unhelpful are simply set to 'ignore' and then actively ignored.

In regards to portables specifically (as mentioned here by Steven36)=>

I avoid installing ANYTHING at all, strenuously.

Instead, I've found a very easy way to make portable/standalone apps for myself.

This is via a great version of UE that was shared here, a while back, by another member - which has not been updated in quite a while since then.

Usually if/when it is possible to do it this way - it takes just a few minutes to unpack the installer, strip out the excesses and arrange the file/folder structure to make many apps run as standalones.

IMO these come out even better than PAF versions and usually work flawlessly - even if they do use the registry a little.

Back to the OP in this thread:

My take on this subject in short is that there do seem to be some few folks who take pleasure in sniping at others and who do seem to post for no other purpose than that a'tall - and quite often too.

AFAIK, this is the very definition of 'troll'.

In the years I've been a delighted forum user, the wisdom in the phrase 'don't feed the trolls' has become very obvious to me.

As such - this is my only advice about 'negativity':

Turn your back to it and walk away as peacefully as possible from it.

Whilst we agree with the principle of topics like this - i.e. being for the greater good of the community, it is with regret they always end up turning into slanging matches.

If there are specific concerns with particular members of this community or specific posts or topics, the report function allows the staff to take the most appropriate action where required.

It is with regret, i shall have to close the topic. Feel free to PM me if there are specific themes noted in this topic that you wish to discuss - i usually am quite good at responding.

(Two posts in the topic have also been removed)
