hosts file of windows you meani think well hosts file is usefull sometimes for blocking ads or dites

the main think it does is assign a software loop back interface ip to list of addresses and it doesnt query the dns server

btw changing host file is considered malicious and blocking is more effetive throgh firewall or third party app

By whom ? How can the ancestor of DNS server can be considered malicious ?

It's not considered anything if I deliberately choose to edit it.

You can without any issue, Hostman will merge all the lists and clean them of any duplicate when creating the new HOSTS file. You have to set 9 hosts per line though, for a smaller size of the file. Along with the DNS Client service enabled, you'll need a lot of RAM too since the file is cached, and your connection may be unavailable for a few minutes before all its content finish to be cached.

wel i didnt say it malicious if user does it but some tolls on internet do edit hosts file thats why some malicious software detect it as malicious

nowerdays editing hosts file has got ancient type but its the only offline loop back interface you see

True, for example F-Secure anti-virus reports any changes in hosts file , then you have to "exclude" that riskware if you need to go on in doing something......

Answer: Yes! Limit yourself to 1 and see if their are ads slipping thru. Try another source & maybe a combination of 1-3 sources.

Do Not Use all 9 sources! The smaller the list of your host file, the faster your internet is.

A large host file WILL slow down your internet. This is a fact. Keep it lean & mean.

One of the vip members has alot of fixes for software like IDM using host file. That's who I would send a p.m. to.

"Large Hosts Files cause Internet related slowdowns due to DNS Client Server Caching.

This negatively effects your browsing speed.

AntiSpyware Hosts File authors irresponsibly recommend disabling the DNS Client Service to solve this problem.

This is not a solution.

The overall performance of the client computer decreases and the network traffic for DNS queries increases if the DNS resolver cache is deactivated.

This effectively reduces Internet Performance for sites you have previously visited and puts an unnecessary load on your ISP's DNS server."
