Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation specifically to fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa that’s spreading to other parts of the world.

The ebola virus has already killed more than 4,000 people according to the CDC, nearly half of the 8,400 people who have contracted the virus. Since the CDC began ramping up its efforts to combat the virus in July, it has assigned more than 700 people to focus on fighting the disease. Zuckerberg says the donation is intended to assist these efforts in hopes of containing the spread of disease, which he says could reach one million people. “We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome,” he wrote in a blog post.

This isn’t the first multi-million dollar donation from the couple this year. In May, Zuckerberg and Chan donated $120 million to Bay Area schools.

Although their intentions are wonderful, I do not believe that the monetary donations by Mar Zuckerberg and Bill Gates will slow the spread of Ebola in Africa.

Ebola will stop spreading when there won't be any money to be made of from this illness.

Perhaps Canada can send disease control people to Dallas, Texas (USA) to train their medical personnel. After all, it is now quite clear that the USA government officials are totally incompetent in such matters.

not totally incompetent...but perhaps too many political appointees are running the show and have way too much say in policy that that should be made by the experts who actually know stuff

The whole handling of Ebola to me looks so far like every cliched epidemic/virus/zombie movie, you know, where they don't take it serious, half-ass the handling, claim it is not a threat and there is no need to panic, all while cases happen not to far where you live.

Then, you know, it spreads like the plague it wants to be, lots of people die, they declare Martial Law and shoot people on sight that some paranoid dude has even the slightest though might have had the virus.

Smooth move CDC, seriously you guys suck and we'd be better off with your fictional counterparts in your movie of choice at this rate.
