A Delaware woman was arrested after her 4-year-old daughter took 249 bags of heroin to day care, thinking they contained candy. Then she started passing them out to her playmates. On Monday, the girl found the heroin packets in a backpack her mother gave her to use that day after the one she normally used was ruined by a family pet, Delaware State Police said in a news release. Not long after she got to the day-care center, she started sharing with the other children. Workers at Hickory Tree Child Care Center in Selbyville, Del., saw some of the kids with small bags of an unknown substance and immediately called 911. Police said it was tested and determined to be heroin, Fox News reported. “None of the packets were opened by any of the kids,” Delaware State Police spokesman Gary E. Fournier told USA Today Monday night. Though, several kids were sent to local hospitals as a precaution and released after being examined. State police contacted the girl’s mother, 30-year-old Ashley Tull, who then went to the day-care center. She was interviewed by police and arrested. Tull faces charges of maintaining a drug property and endangering the walfare of a child. The three endangerment charges are for her 4-year-old daughter as well as her two other children — a 9-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl, police said. Tull was not charged for drug possession. She was released on $6,000 bail. However, her three children are in the custody of a relative and she was ordered to have no contact with them, Fournier said.
