They have 10 days replacement warranty, I guess. Don't take risk, just replace it. And while buying on snapdeal or flipkart, don't go for the cheapest seller. Check if the seller have snapdeal/flipkart badge. Those that have the badges, are checked and verified by them before delivery.

The seller was not verified by snapdeal. Next time when you shop online, be careful about that thing. And don't buy products that has a unusual drop on pricing. Cheap doesn't always comes good. Get the replacement.

Unlike many other external HDD, the WD Passport series depends sorely on a driver not preloaded most of the OS - if you do not have that driver already installed after connecting your WD Passport Ultra to your USB port, install the driver.

If however, you face the issue despite of the driver being installed (as illustrated in the figure under my spoiler) - then, have it duly replaced as suggested by rudrax:--

Next time please don't purchase any hardware from online store. It will be better if you purchase it from authorized local dealer

Altho not a "Passport" I have had 2 different WD "My Book" external HDDs and they both failed within a years time. Maybe just my bad luck tho. Anyways I steer clear of WD drives since then. I personnally have had great luck with Seagate drives. But you know what they say about opinions! :coolwink:

EDIT: I noticed this:

i cant transfer my data to that WD

so finally i came to know that it was in READ ONLY MODE

You also said that formatting and partitioning of the drived failed/didnt work.

then i treid to format it n it was totally failed

<snip>

also tried TO CREATE PRIMARY PARTITION USING DISKPART COMMAND

that aslo didint woek

When you say "failed/didnt work" do you mean that the drive would not accept either command and therefor was not altered in either instance? If this is the case then maybe all that is neccessary is to remove the read-only attributes from the drive!?!? :) Anyways good luck! :sun:

If You pull another WD HDD (same) to Ya PC for short just to use the plug n play feature...maybe it finds new drivers...

HDD LOW LEVEL FORMAT ?

A friend of mine had the same issue last year...he told me later the usb port from the HDD was damaged ?!

He also was able to acess hdd trough a disk managment software but not with explorer...!

I would try to send it to WD if no solution to find....maybe U R lucky...best wishes n good luck :)

If your refund option expired, which happened to me once, I wiped the hard drive, then I run SpinRite on level 5 which can take several days to finish depending on the size of your drive and amount of errors. Then I run HDD regenerator in repair mode. In both instances It found errors and fixed those. Then I installed the OS and PC was running fine for couple of years. During that that tme I run SpinRite and HDD regenerator overy other month, I am not saying that is a solution, but you have nothing to loose trying it.

I am in no way expert on hard drives, perhaps my advise is not correct, I am just sharing my experience with a new damaged hard drive.

@Ravi Did you try [ chkdsk X: /f ] via cmd?

Open the Command Prompt as Run as administrator and than chkdsk [volume:] /f
CHKDSK D: /F – to check and fix a specific drive
CHKDSK D: /R – to check and fix and look for bad sectors on a specific drive
PS. I fried my WD Passport 500 GB last year. :/

I must disagree with you.

The SES driver is not required for your drive to be recognized by your computer.

Running SpinRite or HDD Regenerator via usb is not advisable, and WD has replace these logic boards so they uses a special interface for most of their newer external hard drives.

hi pls tel me how to remove read only attribures..?

*Go to the start menu

*In the search option or "run" command type diskpart

*give it a sec

*type list volume

*Choose volume (disk) that is read only....(in this case ur WD Passport)

*to choose the read only volume type, select volume # (replace the # with 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc what ever the vol# of ur WD Passport is)

-For example> If ur WD Passport is listed as volume 4 then you would type select volume 4

*Once volume is selected, type, attr disk clear readonly

*to be sure it worked, type, detail volume

You'll have to re-flash the firmware of the hdd... How? Look online for software on re-flashing firmware, it's not that easy to find it for hard drives so good luck...

Feel welcome to disagree with me - but, can you point out where I am supposed to have claimed that, "the SES driver is required for the drive to be recognized." lEMe01Z.gif

Exactly, now - from which wretched angle do the following 2 phrases look the same, to your eyes:--

  • "Unlike many other external HDD, the WD Passport series depends sorely on a driver not preloaded most of the OS"
  • "the SES driver is required for the drive to be recognized."

i have that same drive... first thing i did was to delete everything that came preloaded on the drive and then formatted it and i just use it as a stand alone hard drive and use different back up software than what came preloaded on the drive.... did you try to uninstall it from the control panel then try using a different usb port AFTER you restart your computer

edit...spelling

You will get the refund via SD cash in your SD account and that will be availed within a week. The SD cash will come with a validity of 6 months with no minimum purchase.

For mechanical HDD, seagate and WD are the major brands. Maxtor and toshiba are also there but I personally won't recommend them. Buy one from seagate or WD from their latest releases. You won't always be the unlucky one. And if something goes wrong again, the refund is there. Don't look for cheapest seller and care that the seller is SD verified.
