BBs
Just a heads up for those who are planning on installing Windows 10 Preview version. So basically, if you install Windows 10 Preview, they are allowed and WILL collect following data: "name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data", "enter text, we may collect typed characters and use them for purposes such as improving autocomplete and spellcheck features.". ---> These are characteristics of a Spyware/Keylogger. I mean of course they are supposed to collect data to improve their software in the preview version, but those things are NOT in any way required to improve a software. Why do they collect what sites someone vists or what files he opens on his computer? Why do they capature someones keystrokes? I mean wtf ? So they are legally allowed to capature your keystrokes/passwords and send them to their servers ?Why do they collect "phone call and sms data" ? And finally why would they tag all these information to your E-mail, Name and IP-Adress instead of collecting data anonymously? Ps.: I am not saying that Microsoft has malicious intends, i am just saying that they collect data which they don't need. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-privacy-statement Data We CollectMicrosoft collects many kinds of information in a variety of ways in order to operate effectively and provide you the best products, services and experiences we can. Can you read dude, do you also understand what it means ? I think not or you wouldn't say "paranoia" :)Earlier Windows preview versions sure also collected data but no private data like they do now, they basically fully watch what you do on your computer. SPECTRUM
If you say so, didn't know that there were features like speech-to-text in Windows 98 ;D yes, in Word 2002, which was available for Windows 98, also with NetMeeting accessibility features, etc. Please provide me a source of the windows 7 or windows 8 preview version eula which contained collecting such private data:) is the same EULA of privacy for any: preview, alpha, beta, milestone and related Windows versions, they use that info for development purposes, like debug info, automatic error reports, info about how the user use the product, the user settings and preferred settings, window sizes, hardware type, system specs, etc.

dcs18
Just learn to configure your copy and also learn to use a firewall - those who cannot (or wont) . . . . . . . . . . . . are ill-suited to be running a Preview Edition (which is meant precisely for gathering of feedback - remember, it is being provided free of cost.)The choice to accept that freebie is ours - the choice to grumble over a bad decision is not. Microsoft is just another greedy Organization like almost every other business house.
steven36
Really Microsoft spy on everyone .. Even in XP there was XP antispy witch disabled the stuff they use to spy on you , Now it has only gotten worse and no more XP antispy updates since 2011 . It don't matter if you buy it or not they collect data .
dcs18
Microsoft has been spying on people ever since they built their first OS - every manufacturer does that (Microsoft - more so.)Spying is prevalent even outside the realm of computing - for example, even those who employ a custom ROM, like Cyanogen might be aware that it calls home.To prevent all this nonsense that a greedy Company like Microsoft resort to, is to upgrade oneself . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and stop complaining. steven36
People will complain If they want .. They have a right too .. People have been complaining since the beginning of time. I don't like the fact Microsoft spies on everyone , But as far as the GOVT using the data to do anything with it is yet to be seen . If they did use it most everyone would be in trouble . Because people do stuff not legal on the internet and some don't even realize it.

I'm in no hurry to use a barebones O/S that's still developmental . They use the data to make there O/S better . NO one should use it in real time no ways . If they don't want to help Microsoft out they shouldn't use it .. I don't want help them out so Im not . And I'm a paying customer . Ive always bought windows since Windows ME . :D
