Virus Makes Read Only Pen Drive

hi friends i have a San disk 4gb pen drive. it is infected by Trojan.winLNK.Runner.ea and Backdoor.Win32.Folder.hs. i tried everything else to reformat my pen drive. but these virus and Trojans made my pen drive read only. please help me

some times it could be something else like a bad sector in a bad place like (MBR)

any try to format it using a other PC or OS or using bootit bare metal or bootice

these things didn't work. pen drive still in read only mode

Try Full format, not quick format. And change from FAT32 to NTFS. Maybe that removes read only restriction.

remove the pendrive and switch the write protection lock to "writeable", plug it back in and use as normal.

Try this one: F:\>attrib.exe -r -s -h /s /d F:\*.* ....replace F with the drive letter of your Pen Drive.

Last resort would be to try HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 0r HDD Low Level Format Tool 4.40 :P

[use google chrome for links as the links will point to Russian forums... google translate will help]

ChipGenius is a USB device chip type detection tool

download lattest version from

[site lists various other files also, so downlowad chipgenius]

with this tool you can find out the usb drive chip manufacturer & chip number

(just insert your usb, open the software, it will detect, the complete info at the end)

once you know it will be one step near to success

next

For my transand usb drive, I got these details from using the software

(at the bottom tool output is given)

Controller Vendor: SMI

Controller Part-Number: SM3257E

you need to google it as well try in the usbdev.ru site as follows

Controller Vendor with Controller Part-Number

for my transand usb drive, search term became: SMI SM3257E

I searched and got this

SM3257ENAA Low Level Format Tool V2.00.42 M1209…

just format your disk with this tool and the usb disk became OK

(For your usb disk you have to find

Controller Vendor & Controller Part-Number and download any appropriate nearby named tool and try)
