When I got my computer it came with Windows 8 installed. I got the updates for Windows 8.1 so right now it is current. The reason I am thinking of doing this is when I try to install Malwaebytes. I get nothing but error messages and the whole file is corrupted so it won't even run. Other programs work well as far as I can see. If I have to reformat where would I go to get Windows 8.1update 1.and the other 8.1 updates.. It seems to be the only programs that the install in corrupted . Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

Tim

Can you please move this to the topic section for me. That is where I thought I put this post. Thanks

You will get the 8.1 update thru the Windows store, after you install Windows 8, then all the updates will come thru the Windows update center.

You could install directly Windows 8.1 and just apply the Windows 8 key after that.

What I would do, and did, was to download 8.1 and a key from this site then activate it with your key

You are absolutely right. So simple it is.

Sometimes , when malware is present / active on a PC (or remnant effects of malware) it is quite dificult to install antimalware programs - are you sure your PC is clean ? Try to do a clean install of Malwarebyte`s Antimalware as previously recomended davmil and uffbros . Did you try to install Malwarebytes in SafeMode ?

Sort with the help of the CD backup disk.

or (from a friend)

I run 8.1 with two logins: a User account (day to day) and an Admin account.

From within my regular User account, if I right-click on the system tray Malwarebytes icon and “Exit” - say to try and allow a certain MS update – I see I'm not able to change the default settings back to launch the real-time app (nor will it auto-run on a restart.)

You have to logout of User and login as Admin and then: [start] “Malwarebytes Anti-malware”, [Protection] tab, and check the [Enable filesystem protection] and [Enable malicious website blocking] boxes. Then you're back to normal.

Hope that helps.
