LeeSmithG
As you know, I am a 7 pro addict. However, when I purchased a new P.C. for my son, it came with v8.0Now last month it installed and downloaded updates, just fine and installed them, fine. This week, August Patch Tuesday, they will not download.First it took time to check for updates, to a point that 8 hours was too long.So I ran the M$ windows update tool fix, it said it found errors and fixed.I also downloaded the new v8.1, however that won't install, it says it's unpacking and caching install files and does nothing.I tried to download the 3.5 g.b. security and update .iso from majorgeeks and m$ and that is screwed too, as it's 1.5 k.b. in size.So I ran the tool 1 hour ago, it found and fixed errors again for update.I then ran windows update it took 20 minutes then listed updates, so I selected all and set to download, now 55 minutes on it's downloaded 0%It is looping and producing nothing.I have run disk check, no problems, I did run sfc /scannow it found errors and said would fix on re-boot, which was done.So any ideas on how to sort out this dreaded download problem? Thanks in advance. donkey-girl
LeeSmithG look here try this order but guess you kan skip sfc /scannow and go to NeXT step Check system file integrity in admin Command Prompt with: Code: sfc /scannow In case it reports error that cannot be corrected: Code:copy and past in cmd as admin one comand by one Step 1: dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth Step 2: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Actually worked out that the machine had a trial office version installed which I didnt notice before, so uninstalled it and the VLK version. Rebooted, Reinstalled VLK edition and activated successfully. Then try sfc /scannow All will be fine again But if it help you with updates dont know but it will fix these error you have

tezza
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 will fix this Lee also sent you a pm :)
masterupc
I'll begin with a 'chkdsk c: /offlinescanandfix' in a command window/power shell window with admin rights. After reboot do as donkey-girl (the two steps) or/and as tezza. If no success, save all the important data and reinstall windows (from the recovery prompt at boot). Remove any security bundle (aka Symantec, McAfee) and make sure all your drivers/BIOS are updated before applying any windows update.Good Luck! Kalju
The same here - never haven't had any problems. However, Windows 8.1 is a problem that it downloads updates, but shows a very long time that there is downloaded only 0%.Your downloads are located C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download or simply %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DownloadRecommendation: If You have installed them, please delete all. mjall
many bundled pc's coming with low specs which does not always support an OS; therefore errors are not because of Microsoft as often everyone comes to the attached to the OS; it's rather the hardware which is not upto expectations or cheap components used rather than verified ones that are compatible and supported

In future You don't need them. If needed, all will be downloaded again anyway. If You use Wise Cleaner or Wise Care 365, You can use it. But You may delete also manually. Here are settings for Wise Care 365 and Wise Cleaner:Folder:
