locolol
I use MPC on Windows XP ^_^ The one that is included in Combined Community Codec Pack (Frontpaged) works perfectly for me :showoff:
rach
MPC-HC or MPC-BE. suit your taste. anyway I don't use any codec pack anymore since MPC-HC has good internal codecs and subtitle renderer. I love how the devs work on it :)

FreeRyde
I've never experienced any issues or XP PC restarts with K-Lite Codec Pack.I've used the mega pack and MPC for years.
spudboy
There's no reason to litter ones PC with needless codecs anymore with media players like Potplayer (the best imo), VLC, and MPC-HC.
smallhagrid
After trying many media players on my XP box & having especially numerous problems with MPC - I gave up on it and use VLC instead. The things I want from any media player is that it can take youtube URLs and play the video directly - and also preferably be a portable app.MPC did not do the streaming URLs alone, but with SVPTube it could; trouble was it only worked 1/2 the time for most anything. The other 1/2 of the time it caused lockups, reboots and simply failed.Too much trouble to be worth the bother IMO.VLC Portable works well and also opens copied youtube URLs (CTRL+V) about 9/10's of the time, so I've stuck with it until another app which opens & plays streaming youtube vids better may come along.(I prefer NOT to view youtube vids in a browser.)BTW=>Tomabo has a great video downloader which also plays the vids it grabs, and this is the best app of that sort that I've ever used. funkyy
I'm with FreeRyde on this..I've had K-Lite Mega pack since way back in the days when dinosaurs walked the Earth and I first started with Win XP. I've not not had any issues at all. :showoff: :showoff: :showoff:
smallhagrid
What baffles me in the replies above is the notion of installing a bunch of codecs ??VLC and others (like Gomplayer) do not require all that stuff to be installed - or so they say...and with VLC Portable nothing needs to be installed into the OS.To me it seems as if when there are problems with media players that it is the players themselves working poorly rather than a need to have some extra stuff installed. dcs18
@ ramynetJust an heads up - had a laptop come in, last night to be migrated from XP to Windows 8.1 Update Pro.Noticed that it was running the latest MPC-HC with exactly the same issue - noticed though, that the problem was happening only while viewing in HD.Have resolved the issue of MPC-HC shutting down the system - this hardware was overheating due to an extremely dirty fan and clogged vents (cleaned up the hardware internals and applied fresh thermal paste.)Running a 16+ GB file (The Avengers) in MPC-HC for the past 1 hour without any problem.
