jalaffa
Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Download

Kalju
Stable - Paint.NET PSD Plugin 2.4.0 - http://psdplugin.codeplex.com/downloads/get/757015Current -Paint.NET PSD Plugin 2.4.1 Beta - http://psdplugin.codeplex.com/downloads/get/872317Homepage - http://psdplugin.codeplex.com/This is a filetype plugin for Paint.NET that enables both loading and saving of Photoshop .PSD files. For anyone looking for a cheap and effective way to work with Photoshop files without the need to invest in an expensive copy of Adobe's image editing tool need look no further than this Photoshop plugin for Paint.NET.After downloading plugin, it will need to be extracted and the .dll file it contains will then need to be copied to the FileTypes folder in the Paint.NET installation directory. Once this has been done you will be able to open and save Photoshop files (with the .PSD extension) in Paint.NET.How to install the plugin1.Make sure you have Paint.NET 4.0 or later installed. (Check this in Help-About.)2.Close Paint.NET.3.Open the ZIP file, and then copy PhotoShop.dll to: C:\Program Files\paint.net\FileTypes4.Restart Paint.NET, which will automatically detect the PSD filetype plugin. Features:The plugin can load and save the following features of Photoshop .PSD files with no loss of fidelity:RGB imagesColor depth of 8 bits per channelRaster images with no use of vector featuresLayers, using the common blend modes(Optional) RLE compressionIn this way, you can use the plugin to exchange work between Paint.NET and other programs. This is especially important since Paint.NET preserves layers only for the default .PDN format — other file formats are flattened on save. The .PSD file format thus offers the best way to preserve layers when editing an image in multiple graphics programs. The Photoshop .PSD file format is a de facto standard in the graphics industry. In addition to the Adobe Creative Suite, many non-Adobe programs can also read the PSD format: Autodesk Sketchbook, 3ds Max, The GIMP, Microsoft Expression Design, etc.Read more about the homepage.
