anuseems
Adblock Plus makers have been slapped with lawsuits by multiple marketing companies in Germany for affecting revenue by blocking ads.The popular extension, available for all web browsers, blocks advertisements on websites, which is the primary source of revenue for marketing companies. Adblock Plus vendors have a controversial arrangement with some websites which have been whitelisted from the extension by default. Now, a number of advertising companies in Germany have been reported to have filed lawsuits against Eyeo, the company behind Adblock Plus. The companies believe that the business model of Adblock Plus is illegal. It was recently reported that Google has been paying money in order to allow its ads to pass through Adblock Plus. The RTL Group and ProSiebenSat.1 Media of Germany have confirmed to the Horzont magazine that they have filed a lawsuit in the Munich District Court. According to Horzont, many more media houses such as Focus Online and Chip Online have not yet decided whether to pursue legal action or not, but are open to the notion. A spokesperson for Eyeo, Ben Williams, has denied that any action has currently been taken against Adblock Plus.http://www.neowin.net/news/adblock-plus-sued-by-german-marketing-companies Edited July 11, 2014 by anuseems
oliverjia
I hate these stupid marketing companies putting ads on my computer. fark them. Is it legal that they display these ads on my screen without my permission? I did not request these stupid ads from them, and the loading of these ads wasted my bandwidth and cost me money. They are thieves in this sense. Can I sue them?
Karlston
What's next? Fining users who don't look at the bandwidth-wasting intelligence-insulting mind-numbing annoying distracting animated drivel that passes for "advertising"?Sorry marketers, I visit pages for the content, not for the advertising crap that does its best to stop me reading it. steven36
They do get paid to allow ads I think but its your choice they have a box to untick if you want to block all the ads . And there's already other branches of there add-on out like Adblock Edge.. APB is just a fork off AB Even if they was to close down because they got sued someone else would keep making it under a different name that dont get paid from goggle . It could cause a better AdBlock even one you dont have to untick the box lol . In the long-run suing is never going to do nothing I say. Avitar
What level of stupidity is this? I install the extension BY MY OWN CHOICE because I DO NOT LIKE BEING TRACED and HAVING TARGET ADVERTISEMENTS thrown in my face. I do NOT like my bandwidth being wasted and slowing down my internet browsing speed. I have the CHOICE if I want to see ads or not! ABP doesn't beg anyone to install its extension. And of course, users can opt out of targeted ads.I wanna see this case last 5 mins in court without being ripped apart by some good ABP attorneys. And while there are there, we can all join to counter mass suit advertising companies for invading our privacy and tracking us.
MidnightDistortions
I have had virus/malware problems and display errors due to these ads. I hope ABP has some good lawyers because people do have a right to block ads they do not wish to see or deal with. I don't watch tv, does that mean i get sued for not watching tv?I don't like ads, ABP is a service like anything else that gives users the ability to block ads if they choose not to have them on. It is also a very good protection tool for users that do not know the difference between an ad that is a phishing scam and one that is legit. There's also those automatic playing ads that drive me up the wall and besides the protection aspect of ABP, it also prevents these auto playing ads from showing up. No, if i want to spend money i will go to amazon.com or some other site. Ads are one of the stupidest thing on this planet. They don't even show you anything you'd want to buy. These companies are getting mad because they are not making their million dollar quota every day.

So if they allowed someone else to use there code anyone could make there ownhttps://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-edge/
OrioNeXus
the company should request/pay for whitelisting why wasting court's time ;can't these idiots may ways for separate nonchargeable bandwidth for ads ;users still have the rights to block them it's personal choice and our internet freedom . LeeSmithG
This is just another entity in the line of long term complainers. I don't want to see ads whilst using the internet so I use a free and a paid for adblocker. doubleagent
HA !!!Look at Kaspersky features. It also has Anti-Banner, which is the same as Adblock if you put a good filter in it.So, why only ABP? :wtf: And also, I agree that ads is bullshit. I dont want them to appear in my screen. Waste of bandwidth. :)
steven36
HA !!!Look at Kaspersky features. It also has Anti-Banner, which is the same as Adblock if you put a good filter in it.What I get from it is the fact after a certain build that they added to box you have to uncheck to get rid of the list that allows ads ..witch they dont tell no one they should uncheck it to block all ads when you install it. If you look at the list of ads they allow are from big companies that can afford to pay lots to ABP to allow them . Smaller companies cant afford to pay so there just out of luck. Well these companies fell that ABP is not setting a very good business model. If I were APB I would go back to just taking donations and remove the box like ABE it dont have the box that's why they started ABE because the guy who makes it dont like the fact they have the box in ABP.
