You can recover passwords, steal data - anything you want."Spreading outBut it is the next step of the virus that is most unusual. Nastrahl
So basically even personnal computer/laptops was more secure 20 years ago using BlackICE and a third party firewall (since Windows didn't have any built-in at this time) than nowadays. Good to know…

humble3d
Chameleon WiFi Virus Spreads Like a ColdMarch 6, 2014 | By Joshua Cannell | 2 Comments | A team of researchers at the University of Liverpool developed a virus dubbedChameleon that travels over WiFi networks and spreads “as efficiently as the common cold spreads between humans.”Unlike most viruses, Chameleon doesn’t go after computers or internet resources, but focuses on access points (APs), or where you connect to the internet. For the average home user, this is usually a wireless router. The research team says the virus spreads fast, avoiding detection and identifying “the points at which WiFi access is least protected by encryption and passwords.” If the virus hits a roadblock when trying to propagate, it simply looks for other access points “which weren’t strongly protected including open access WiFi points common in locations such as coffee shops and airports.”There hasn’t been many technical details released on the virus, but it’s not unheard of for an AP to become infected; a few weeks ago, in fact, reports surfaced that several thousand Linksys routers had become infected with a worm likely installed by a vulnerability found in the firmware.“When Chameleon attacked an AP it didn’t affect how it worked, but was able to collect and report the credentials of all other WiFi users who connected to it”, said Alan Marshall, Professor of Network Security at the University. It’s unfortunate that very few routers today have adequate anti-virus protection, if they have any at all. In addition, many consumers don’t ever change the default username and password on their routers, making it dreadfully susceptible to hijacking. Here are some measures you can take to protect yourself from these types of threats:Change the default username and password on your home routerEnsure your WiFi network is password protected with a strong passwordAvoid weaker wireless authentication protocols like WEPDon’t broadcast your network’s name (SSID)Avoid public networks and WiFi hotspotsConsider MAC address filtering to control which devices connect to your network_________________________________________________________________Joshua Cannell is a Malware Intelligence Analyst at Malwarebytes where he performs research and malware analysis. TheCryptionist
the topic is ( a solve to this virus ) no comments on it.It seems more like a disabled(Turned off) radio rather than an infection by a virus.Clearly, you misinterpreted the the report regarding the chameleon virus.Firstly, It's just a research virus, a proof of the concept that such a virus which can infect the Access Points could be created.Secondly, if in an unlikely manner, your router had been infected with that virus, it does not affect your WiFi experience, it just collects data and steals information from you. In that case the solution is in the report itself:1. Upgrade your Router/AccessPoint firmware to eliminate the infection (Elimination)2. Secure your WiFi by using WPA2 encryption and a more secure and unguessable password (Prevention)3. Change the default password of the Router/AccessPoint web interface panel. (Prevention)If you have a problem that you can't solve by your self, instead of taking any assumptions and ask people to suggest solutions based on that (incorrect) assumption(s), describe your problem precisely with as much as details as you can (hardware details,OS version, AccessPoint Mark/Model, etc) and let others to analyze and find the possible cause of the problem and suggest solutions. Dodel
no network is detectedno router problemthis is already the third infection i see in the store (customers pc or laptops)i think also no roaming or radio working .with cable you can surf but not wifi !Have you even checked the router settings to see if it's broadcasting at all, SSID ?, have you unplugged net, rebooted router ?Also if it's the 3rd infection, why do you keep adding them to the network, wtf.Further more if it's a virus that spreads by wifi, it would a little counter productive for it to disable the wifi wouldn't it. I expect it's simply either router fail, or that it's not broadcasting. Virgin routers do this all time, just stop broadcasting for no reason, sometimes I even have to go back in and enable it.
