psyko666
Microsoft won't be delivering a new Start Menu for Windows 8 with its coming Windows 8.1 Update 2, after all. That recent change in plans comes courtesy of a couple of my sources who've had good track records on Windows information.Up until recently, Microsoft was hoping to make a new "Mini" Start Menu part of a second update to Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 Update 2 was -- and still is, last I heard -- slated to arrive in August of this year.Microsoft's operating systems group has decided to hold off on delivering a Microsoft-developed Start Menu until Threshold, the next "major" release of Windows. Threshold, which may or may not ultimately be called Windows 9, is expected to be released in April 2015. I'm not clear whether the postponement is because the feature won't be fully baked in time, or if there's another reason for the change in plans.Microsoft still is moving full steam ahead with plans to try to make Windows 8.x more palatable and usable by those using mice and keyboards, as well as those used to previous Windows iterations. That strategy hasn't changed. The new Microsoft-developed Start Menu isn't going to be the same as the Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 Start Menus; it's expected to offer some familiarity, but also integrate Windows 8's Metro-Style Start screen concept. (For those who prefer the more traditional Windows Start Menu experience, there are a few third-party-developed Start Menus for Windows 8 on the market including Start8 from Stardock and the Pokki Windows 8 Start Menu.)Terry Myerson, the Microsoft Executive Vice President who runs the unified operating system group, showed off a Start Menu mock-up during Microsoft's Build conference in early April, noting that Microsoft was going to bring a Start Menu back to Windows as part of the "next iteration" of the operating system. He didn't specify whether that meant Windows 8.1 Update 2 or Threshold, but based on leaks later in April, the internal plan was to make the Start Menu part of Update 2.Myerson also showed off in early April a new option to run Metro-Style/Windows Store apps to run in windows on the Desktop. I'm still hearing that windowed Metro-Style apps functionality remains a Threshold deliverable, not a Windows 8.1 Update 2 deliverable. So now what's going to be in Windows 8.1 Update 2? Will there be any user-interface changes or will it be more a vehicle for under-the-covers programming interface and reliability improvements? I don't know at this point.Source: http://www.zdnet.com/no-microsoft-start-menu-for-windows-8-until-2015-sources-7000030100/

Rok
Who cares the f**ked Microsoft's Start Menu. We are happy with StartIsBack+. And, I am wondering, people still looking for MS releasing it, when they have not released it in past years. Let MS keep it glue in their f***ing hole. :tehe: :uhuh: Edited June 2, 2014 by Rok
Kalju
Totally agree! Good news. Whom is it needed? Windows stupidity.
dcs18
Microsoft has the cheek to conspire in sneaking the Modern UI (Metro) into its proposed Start Menu - glad that it has been postponed (for whatever reasons.) :D
sinders
Who cares about Windows 8. By the time they add the Start Menu in Windows 8, they will already be releasing Windows 9 which supposedly has the Start Menu etc built back in. If Windows 9 dose turn out to be good improvements over Windows 8 than most people will make the switch from Windows 8 anyways and those of us still using Windows 7 might be more inclined to make the switch too if Windows 9 does turn out to be good. Nastrahl
I personally don't care about a start menu since I know what program I have installed and the Win + Q hot key (like others) is a faster way.

brain_death
Windows 8.1 already has a rudimentary start menu...A simple right click is all you need and it's enough for my purposes, lol. :sorry:
MidnightDistortions
I don't think it'll happen. They are trying to gimmick that it is coming back trying to encourage people to try W8 out and wait for the update to happen. They have been saying they are going to return the start menu and they never did. It's not going to happen. They are trying to keep people interested in Windows and not look elsewhere by saying 'start menu is coming back with next update'. Time to look for an alternative if you are upset that MS doesn't want the start menu back or just deal with the changes. Or like others have said there are 3rd party replacements, though i don't like working backwards here, MS has been known to remove and mess with features so W8 is no different. I wouldn't be embracing Linux so much if W8 didn't exist so i thank MS for releasing a OS that people are rejecting because i don't want to pay for an OS and even though i might pirate upcoming Windows if i ever need it i can always rely on Linux to do what i need basic stuff done :). dMog
they should just tell the customers they cannot figure out how to do it and recomend start is back to be installed...2 dollars and 50 cents to buy this software is more than reasonable

LeeSmithG
When a company start dictating to their customers what to do, customers get vexed and leave them.95 good, 98 bad, 2000 good, Millennium bad, XP good, Vista bad, 7 good, 8 bad.I have also seen others write down the same pattern.Windows 8 should had been in two flavours, (not home or pro) home and tablet.Home and Pro maybe and Tablet. Then home users can have a new operating system built on the success of 7 and improved. With start menus, control panel, my computer etcetera. The tablet users, can have the more mobile version, touch, stylus or both.I don't want a freaking tablet, I want an operating system that is top quality and easy to use, rather than have to use third party software to get back what I want. dcs18
It is not that Microsoft was listening to their Customers throughout the ages and just suddenly started to dictate terms - Microsoft has always been dictating.Windows should have been in 3 flavors of Desktop, Metro and Hybrid - that might probably have kept most if not all Users happy. ^_^
