LeeSmithG
Sup!Well had this problem for some time now, could be, my screen saver comes on, stays on for a few minutes, I move the pointer (mouse) and I get a freeze. This means a cold boot. Before someone says, ''why do you use a screensaver on a LCD'', I like seeing the koi fish.I.E. also, can freeze up bad, never before have I had this for my default browser.I did change it to I.E. even though admuncher does not support it, got better but, still the same freeze.Any ideas? axarad
Well this may have multiple origins ,check theses:Low RAMScreensaver is incompatible with Windows/Or video card, try uninstall or update screensaver to latest versionVideo card issue: check if your video card driver is working properly and try updating to latest versionLow hard disk spacea lot of Auto startup background processes that slows down your computer by using too much system ressources (CPU&RAM)Virus/Malwres can make your windows freeze by using too much system ressourcesHard disk errorshope this helps, good luck! dcs18
Any ideas? There could be virtually thousands of reasons causing a system to freeze. :(Do you have any idea on what you did - just before; the very first time the issue manifested itself? In the meanwhile, suggest you configure your favorite Task Manager to startup with Windows - might help you to spot the specific process that is conflicting enough to cause the problem. mazigh
I do have the same issue (Cold Freeze) just after some while after startup, It happens sometimes but it's really annoying, the mouse cursor, Screen..all suddenly freeze so I'm forced to shutdown using physical button, I'm on Win 8.1u1 x64, I don't think it's because of screen saver here is my startup: Edited May 31, 2014 by mazigh

H4rDw4rE
@LeeSmithGaxarad give you good start point. What is your computer temperature (CPU and graphics)? If problem is related to cooling then less than minute with "heavy" screen saver would be enough to freeze system.Last machine I repaired has problems with heatpipe (gas leaked) and fan speed was 100% but it freeze in minute.Maybe try to update all drivers (not only graphics, sound).Disable all startup applications.Check what happened when you boot into safe mode (it won't detect driver error but will give you some informations about hardware problems).Disable antivirus (prior that disconnect internet if you don't believe your firewall).Disable screensaver. And test computer. It could be hardware problem also, so diagnostic could be real pain, but you have not too many options.Wish you luck with diagnostic. SlimRock
I presume that you're using keyScrambler on your system. Use Whatis Hang & you'll come to know that 99% times it's KeyScrambler which is causing the Hangs & Deadlocks! :dunno:Just to make sure it's the main culprit, please uninstall the said application & check the system health. :s
LeeSmithG
Thanks for all your replies.I will start from the bottom and work my way up.So keyscrambler is #1 culprit. It's not working properly anyway.
Holmes
I agree with axarad and hardware dont forget to check to see if its video card if it freezes right when the screen saver shows up I mean right after it can be faulty ram or video card might be overheating like they said above. I use keyscrambler and I only have one bug and that is random characters are shown while typing sometimes to fix it shut off keyscrambler and enable it again. I use windows seven sixty four bit and you supplied windows seven service pack one did not say if its sixty four bit. You have access to all your ram in sixty four bit and ram is faster check keyscrambler and all startup items and see if its a stick of ram do you have one stick of ram if you have additional sticks of ram test one stick of ram at a time and use trial and error. Please answer my questions then I can help you further..
LeeSmithG
Ding ding ding, I think slimrock wins a prize. So far so goodeee.I had a feeling it was probably that app.So many updates, still not encrypting even whilst on, cutting out words in sentences, losing letters whilst typing.I still have zemana, so not too many worries. H4rDw4rE
Maybe you should consider making backup image (missed this time because system is already screwed), as you, obviously, don't want to make clean install.Sometimes it is very hard to repair old installation and best option is to make clean install or use system restore function (personaly never make things work using system restore when real problems comes...).Hope you will repair your system. I was getting a bluescreen related to nvlddmkm process ( related to NVIDIA) and something called ERROR TDR VIDEO... I don't remember the full name well, hope this helps others
LeeSmithG
To report, I think it also has something to do with Advanced SystemCare.Removed it, noticed a speed increase and not a freeze yet.Update.When I think back to when I installed the above program, is I think when I started getting the slowness, the hangs and the freezes.Keyscrambler has been a bitch in the past 4 months anyway.
