British Government Intensifies War on Disabled
The British government are planning to remove essential living funds from people with serious disabilities. The Independent Living Fund allows vulnerable people to live at home instead of in residential accommodation.
Campaigners across the country have vowed to fight the move.
Organiser of one protest, Andy Greene, of Islington Disability Action, said:
“There are about 100 people in the borough who depend on the ILF, which works out at about £300 a week,” he said
“To these individuals the money is a matter of living a reasonable existence at home or spending the rest of their days in a care home where standards are often dubious to say the least.
“Disabled people in Islington – and there are about 30,000 of us – feel so angry about this that we are joining a national Independence Day demonstration in July with the possibility of disruption and civil disobedience.
“It could include blocking roads with entertainments or simply causing obstructions. ”
