The Owl
anyone know why they still make 32bit windows operating systems?? why would people use them when they only support up to 4GB of RAM??Because many people have older single layer CPU machines both desktop and laptop types for instance I personally have three main machines that clock well over 7 on the WEI scale I also have a Barton 3200 with 3Gb of Ram in a old GA-7N400 Pro2 with 6 500Gb Maxtor drives and a huge video card its main purpose now is storage for backup's and has a spare TV card in it just in case the main one in my Bedroom is off line (being disabled I sometimes spend the day in bed because of pain), I cannot even put W7 on that machine because it wont work on that board so it runs XP (Legal) but I am glad of the hack that is flying about for updates. iih1
me, uses both 32bits and 64bits most LapTop nowadays was on x64..sometimes32bits architecture still needed on several apps, games, that wil runs just fine on 32bitsbecause their ext file compiled on 32bits...however most apps/sw now runsOK on 64Bits..then they will put in program files (x86) on your windows x64for example IDM still have 32Bits architecture see it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)installed on windows x64. cruelsister
Unless you are using heavy graphics applications, databases, or multiple VM's, in all probability you won't even come near needing 4GB. There is really no speed advantage of 64 vs 32 bit systems, and as noted above 64 bit may restrict what applications can be run on your system (especially anti-malware apps). Consider that Microsoft makes both 64 and 32 bit versions of Office bur recommends that the 32 bit version be used in the majority of cases:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee681792%28v=office.15%29.aspxSo yeah, a 64 bit user can brag that they have 64GB of RAM, but to be taken seriously one must prove that it is ever utilized. jabrwky

Kalju
I do not use anymore, but I can't see any reason not to use it. And believe me, it will used for a long time. Edited May 27, 2014 by Kalju

And I never understood what is advantage of an 64 bit OS, beside RAM usage?Math intensive programs like CAD or photoshop utilize 64 bit OS very well... A lot easier to count i n 64 than 32 bit

vregu
While not use heavy software like Photoshop, CAD, or video editors .. I see no need to use x64 architecture.I use x86, Windows 7 Profesional, 2 GB of Ram and Dual Core 2.8 Ghz CPU ... and all its ok! :showoff: Edited May 27, 2014 by vregu
badrobot
I have an ASUS T-100 Transformer 10" tablet running full version of Windows 8.1 32-bit. 32-bit is actually for those who owns an older system but wants to run newer versions of Windows OS. clubhouse
Until my 32bit suddenly stops being able to do all the things I use it for, I'm happy without 64bit.

Dhruv
Many games are released for 64bit support only.
VileTouch
in fact if you happen to be using a Socket 775 (or it's amd equivalent ...939?) you are MUCH better off using 32 bits os. despite "64bit support" being a big selling point for these proccessors, in practice it was wonky at best. (you're welcome to try if you like though i think more recent patches have made life a lot easier or at least less miserable for owners of these chips)the first proccessors that were truly 100% 64bit capable (imho) were the 2011's i3 generation. go0gle
The answer is simple, choices. :PYes it is, but it´s called forced not choices. Soon (with win 9) we all will be enforced to use x64 bit only, even if you as regular user dont have any need and use of it.Many games are released for 64bit support only.Yes, because M$ determines the rules and other companys just follow the same rules. Nobody care what we users think or want/need.
