oreo27
Hi Everyone,I currently have a laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro (Upgraded from 8 using an 8.1 ISO). Since Windows 8.1 with Update came out and I've already downloaded the ISO, can I use this ISO to update my 8.1 laptop? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light into the topic. dcs18
Windows 8 Pro, the 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Update, Pro - these are 3 different things altogether. You are running the middle one - the 8.1 Pro and wish to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Update, Pro.There are 2 ways to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Update, Pro:--In-place upgradeFull and clean installStrongly urge you download the Windows 8.1 Update, Pro ISO to perform a full and clean install - it is a great opportunity for you to start afresh (will repay you with a richer and headache-free computing experience.) someone there
Yes you can. Provided that you use same windows bit eg: 32 bit or 64 bit. and same language of the installed system you want to upgrade.Good luck

But this is a laptop that I only use for browsing and presentations so the in place upgrade would be easier. I have a desktop that I'm planning to clean install the Windows 8.1 with Update to. The Desktop will be coming from Windows 7.Yes you can. Provided that you use same windows bit eg: 32 bit or 64 bit. and same language of the installed system you want to upgrade.Good luckHopefully they're the same language. I'll try to install it within the next couple of days. Thanks for the heads up guys.

mikie
I burnt the msdn 8.1u1 iso to dvd and did the repair install from within windows 8.1 pro.Way cool .. nearly perfect everything reinstalled ! Except it took an hour in total time. Used the published temporary 8.1 universal key for the install.. then just changed it to my old paid for upgrade to 8 key once back online. oreo27
And it was indeed successful. All my apps and settings were kept intact. Pretty easy versus downloading it again via Windows Update. Thanks for all the help!
oreo27
Just run Windows Update, why complicate things?Cheers ;)Good question. Well, it's a particularly large update and my download throughput is not that good. I thought to save time by simply using the ISO :)I burnt the msdn 8.1u1 iso to dvd and did the repair install from within windows 8.1 pro.Way cool .. nearly perfect everything reinstalled ! Except it took an hour in total time. Used the published temporary 8.1 universal key for the install.. then just changed it to my old paid for upgrade to 8 key once back online.Repair install? I just booted normally into Windows 8.1, mounted the Windows 8.1 with Update ISO and ran setup from there. It took about half an hour from that to booting back into the desktop with everything intact. :)
