You should try 2 of my fav extensions for downloading. Better than IDM if you ask me and free. Downthemall, and BYTubeD, BYTubeD support is discontinued, but it still work.

Firstly, what do you class as slow ?, (What's your line speed ?.)

Secondly, have you increased the threads per site in IDM settings ?

Lastly, as AlexCross states, try Downthem all, that also allows multithreaded downloads, it's basically a firefox extension, and does essentially what IDM does.

You can download youtube videos with BYTubeD, BYTubeD gets you the links and DownthemALL downloads them. You can even get full playlists by combining both extensions.

@ don2

No such issue/s, here on my IDM - it downloads at the highest possible speed (from YouTube) that my ISP provides.

YouTube is one of those few sites that's compatible with the resumable 32 connection-threads that's a hallmark of IDM.

Recently, have tweaked a few members' IDM on TeamViewer and it's been rocking for them - you might have a misconfiguration.

There are factors which can affect download speed. It could be the case your ISP may throttle your speed at peaks time, there could be latency issue, etc.
