I got a buggy 2GB microSD to look at. It was a Strontium brand 2GB memory card.

I inserted the card. Tried scanning with ESET, but ESET can't open it for scanning. Shows "error opening". Tried formatting with windows. After several attempts it's get formatted but total space available is still 45MB. I tried "SD card formatter" and some HP formatting tool. They successfully formats but total space available is still the same. In computer management the disk shows off as a RAW partition. There it can't be formatted as it dirctly shows error when attempted to format.

So, where are the rest of 45MB gone? On a date with dcs18? :rofl:

Tried formatting with windows.

Never format any memory card in Windows - you'll destroy it (the card.) :nono:

What hardware did that card belong to?

Did you buy this online? like ebay? If so its most likely fake/from china that makes counterfeit memory cards and usb sticks.

Try to format it from your device.

  1. Go to the Command Prompt by typing CMD in the Run menu or box Search Program and Files
  2. Type in Diskpart , then Enter
  3. Microsoft Diskpart window will appear, then type List Disk to see Disk drive installed on your computer, then press Enter
  4. Select the USB flash disk that shows us (to facilitate llihat wrote in size) by way of example type: Select Disk 1
  5. Then delete the partition by typing: Clean, after succsess then create a new partition by typing: Create Partition Primary

Well, she left with her buggy memory in the morning as she was in hurry.

@dcs18, that was from a micromax mobile phone.

@nanana1, :tooth:

@infamous, I'm aware of that thing and I never shop from ebay. That's was bought from local retailer.

@exodious, tried that too.

@pepperoni, as she left with her buggy memory, I no longer have any subject to try your procedure on. I will copy it though for next time.

Does your Mom know that you've been banging someone behind her back? ^_^

Something similar happened to me a few years ago and i used Panasonic SDFormatter V2.0 (freeware) and voila! Recovered the "lost" space :showoff:

I uploaded it in case you need it (1.19mb)

its simple. its just that Windows don't recognise those file system. It might me that the person partitioned the SD card for Android use. All what you need to do is to format with gparted for Linux (Ubuntu). Or if you could get a 3rd party tool for Windows that can help you view the lost partition in Windows as people have already recommended, I will advice you delete the whole partition on the SD Card before formatting...
