[Android] Security App Cerberus Is Three Years Old Today, Celebrating With Free Licenses For One Day Only (Plus A New Feature)

The Android Device Manager might get the basics taken care of, but Cerberus goes a few steps farther. It's a powerful security suite with features like SIM locking, device alarms, remote lock, remote wipe, remote picture taking, and location tracking. It would usually cost you €2.99 (about $4) for a lifetime license, but it's free for the next day in celebration of the app's third birthday.

Cerberus has robust functionality on standard devices, but it can also take advantage of root access to move to the system partition so it persists between device resets. The new feature added in v2.5 is Radar Mode, and it's pretty ingenious. If you use GPS to track down your lost phone to, say, someplace inside a building, Radar Mode can get you the rest of the way there. It toggles the hotspot on for the lost device, then uses the signal strength to guide you in the right direction.

If you like free stuff, all you need to do is log in with a new account during the promotion. The upgrade happens automatically, but you have to take advantage of this deal today before 6AM GMT on April 26th – that's 11PM PDT on the 25th.

I got it earlier in the morning, but I was disappointed. Let's say that you lose your phone, you have all your accounts on it, like google account. The one who stole/find your phone, can go to the app, press reset the password, and an email will be send with the link. You'll say : But how he will see your inbox?. Well, you need to configure your Android with your google account, so you can use your Android device properly, so, the one who find/stole your device will have full control over your email inbox.

He can log in the app, he can do whatever he wants. So the app it's pointless to me. If he doesn't know your username, he can press forgotten username, and an email with it will be send to your inbox, that he has acces to it.

Don't get me wrong, it has very usefull options, but what's the point if the person who has your phone can gain acces to them so easly.

But this is assuming that one doesn't have screen lock enabled.

For added security it always best to encrypt the phone. This way no one can get into it .

you can hide the app from app drawer and set up a dial code, then you can access cerberus only when dialling that number

also you cannot uninstall the app easily when administrator is set on in the app settings

one of the best anti theft apps
