Because

1- People change browsers all the time

When people change browsers what stops them from posting the previous poll?

Because

2- A lot of forums have like a hidden rule that a poll should be updated if it is a year old, that's from personal experience

My personal experience is that duplicity is moderated and one of the 2 unwanted thread is closed - this rule is not hidden.

That would not show the difference between then and now, we wouldn't be able to compare

My personal experience is that duplicity is moderated and one of the 2 unwanted thread is closed - this rule is not hidden.

The hidden part concerns "one year old poll"

If a normal threat is a duplicate, the newer one gets closed/deleted/merged

If a poll is a duplicate and the older one is more than a year old, the older one gets closed

A lot of forums have that

Why not???

One can delete one's previous vote and update the same - not essential to have a new poll for that (this is the 3rd poll on browsers.)

The point is to compare Firefox (or other) share in 2014, 2013, 2012, etc. here on the forum

I can see the 3-year share within the older poll, itself - why is a new poll required each year (as illustrated below) to understand the year-wise distribution:--

Situation 1:

1 poll from 2011 till now

Firefox share 50%

Situation 2:

3 polls

poll from 2011 till 2012

Firefox share 30%

poll from 2012 till 2013

Firefox share 70%

poll from 2013 till 2014

Firefox share 50%

==

From situation 1

We can't tell what Firefox share was from 2011 till 2012

From situation 1

We can

Right!!!

You just answered for yourself - now, just do the maths and you'll find the answer from situation 1 is equal to the one in situation 2. Therefore, what's the point in creating situation 2 - it's only going to cause a loss of all those wise words and re-duplication of the silly ones.

It is about the history of Firefox share

From situation 1

Can we tell what Firefox share was "from 2011 to 2012" ?

Can we tell if the share went up or down when compared to "from 2012 to 2013" ?

No and no

This poll that you started mid-way in April 2014 - will it tell us whether the share went up or down since 2013 . . . . . . . . . . no!!!

This poll (from april 2014 till the next poll)

will show if the share went up or down compared to

the the poll (from march 2013 till april 2014)

You're already for late for 2014 by more than 3 months - so, that argument about comparing this years share with that of 2013 is no longer valid.

On this forum:

We are not comparing years. We are comparing periods

On other forums:

Polls start Jan. and end Dec. so we can compare years there

Ah, period . . . . . . you keep changing the goal posts as each one of your reasons get debunked - it will be interesting to hear what the Admins. say when I propose to open new polls every month (polls that are already existent):--

Favorite Browser (April 2014)

Favorite Browser (May 2014)

The situations 1,2 above are hypothetical

About a poll every month:

You forgot this

a poll should be updated if it is a year old

You forgot to link the nSane source of that 1-year-old clause.

You probably failed to read what I asked - have highlighted it for you:--

You forgot to link the nSane source of that 1-year-old clause.

And you seem to forget

A lot of forums have like a hidden rule that a poll should be updated if it is a year old, that's from personal experience

Never said there was a written rule about that on nsane
