Norton internet security problems

Hi everyone recently i got NIS 2009 and installed the reseter. Everything was fine except for the fact that i kept getting blue screens every day or two. I ran the windows debugger and figured out it was the Norton that was causing the problem but never found what to do about it. After a while i didn't care about these blue screens anymore. Until a week ago i decided to exclude the path to the reseter because it was removed by NIS and i had only a few days of subscription remaining. By the way this was for version 16.2.0.7 of the program. Once i did that, i started to have bigger problems.

I began to get a C2 blue screen error and after the system came back, norton subscription had ended. I tried installing the reseter as well as NIS many times, even under safe mode but nothing.

I searched around and found there was a new version of NIS 2009, version 16.5.0.135 so i thought if it installed it, that would solve the problem (hopefully). It didn't.

At first everything seemed fine and i installed the reseter following the instructions on how to install it with the proven method. About 2 hours after i installed and updated everything, another blue screen, this time a non paged are error. When the system came back up, NIS 2009 subscription over again. I tried installing the reseter once again and it gave me this screen:

errorwithnis.jpg

I would really appreciate if you guys could help me out. I'm tired of getting all these blue screens every day and having to install the program over and over again!!

Thank you for reading,

fishcracker

1. Your NTR is old there is allready a 3.3 version check the Crack Heads 2 Topic

2. For the Bluescreens you should check a forum of Norton or so...

3. You could try norton 360 maybe you wont get that bluescreens again!

4. Or maybe its not norton who makes that Bluescreens?

Do you have any other Av's Installed with norton??

Thanks for your reply BBs. I'll definitely check out the new NTR.

Thanks for the advice of using norton 360 i'll probably have to do that if nothing else works. But as far as i've heard, norton 360 slows down your computer by a lot is that true? i've only tried it once and that was about 3 years ago.

As for the blue screens, i don't think it's anything else because all these started right after the first time i installed nis with the ntr.

And by the way no i don't have any other AV's other than nis 2009.

Thanks again for your help

Norton and Windows Defender are not compatible. Unless you disabled the Windows Defender, it is running. I got the same problem until I disabled the Windows Defender. For me, the BSOD happens when both Norton and WD start the scheduled scanning in the background.

Thanks for info box windows defender seems to be off i don't know if it was like that before though but lets see what happens. Only the automatic updates option is on. Also, what's new in version 3.3A of NTR?

I just installed norton 360 and followed the instructions for the ntr and then on the first reboot, another bluse screen stating:

non_paged_area with a code 50.

after it restarted again, norton 360 still says 30 days trial. However, on the readme file it doesn't say if it is supposed to stay as a 30 day trial or if it is like nis which gives you a 90 day subscription. If anyone could please let me know i'd really appreciate it. Thanks BBs

i searched the non_paged_area 50 but i didnt find anything about norton in google... It looks like something on your computer dont work with norton!!!

And for the NTR:

It wont reset the Trail Date automaticly (why? You could get easyer blacklisted)

You have to run the [switch] to make it 90 days(how to switch? In safemode start NTR and press the READ ME button. A file with name switch.exe will be created on your desktop, start it and choose the setting you want.... Look on the readme at the bottom you will see what which option does. I think you have to [Protect] to get 90 days or so)

Have Fun! ;)

Check your Applications List maybe some app + norton gives the bluescreens!

Edit:

I found something about the Bluescreens on a norton forum, check it out:

Thanks BBs i think i might have found the program (if any) that interferes with norton. I've had adaware installed for sometime. I'll try removing it to see if that works. Thanks again for your help i'll post results.

Alright so i removed adaware and tried the switch again this time using silent mode. After rebooting, non_paged_area blue screen once again and after system came back on, norton expired and blacklisted, tried active mode, norton came back up but then after a quick scan, blue screen again. Finally, i decided to just use protected mode and so far no Bsods. By the way, the NTR did not convert it to 90 day so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if is just supposed to be a 30 day trial all the time using the NTR+ switch. box, is this supposed to make it a 90 day or just 30 day trial?

many thanks for all the help i've been provided so far.

@fishcracker

Could you specify your machine : What OS are you using (XP or Vista)?

My 2 pence of advice.....Get rid of Norton or Vista!

To each their own!

Damn man! i'm sick of these blue screens. I just got another one. This time n360 was not affected at all which had not happened before. it would always expire. I still don't know if the ntr is supposed to give me a 90 day or just 30 days trial after every reset. can anyone tell me please!

@kotaxor:

But i like both! and i mean, what other AV would you recommend that is better than norton and has features like norton such as a firewall and phishing protection and stuff?

Edit:

Also, regarding the blue screens, i ran the windbg and the latest minidump tells me:

Could not read faulting driver name

Probably caused by : WinFl32.sys ( WinFl32+1ec0 )

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)

Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,

it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or it

is pointing at freed memory.

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x50_WinFl32+1ec0

i just posted some of the most believed to be important details from the minidump.

Can anyone plase help me figure out what's going on and how i can fix this?

Thanks

Edit2:

On the 2 crashes before that one, these are some remarks i got from the debugger:

BugCheck 50, {c662c000, 0, 82088343, 0}

Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!KiTrap0E+dc )

You said AV? as in Anit-virus? Is Norton the only AV (?) with firewall and phishing protection?

Good luck to you. <_< :evil:

@fishcracker

I have the same config. as you (Vista Sp1 + Norton 360).

1- The ntr didn't give 90days, N360 stay with it's original 30days (and counting down).

2- Vista + N360 works together as a charm. No problem at all.

3- BSOD, Debugging ....  all this will be really a Headache for you and time consuming.

4- Troubleshooting needs serious skills and time to tackle the problems (this is sometime above the average people knowhow).

My advise :

It is time for a Purge of your machine and a clean restart. (Take it as an opportunity and not as a tragedy).

Please reinstall Vista. (I am not kidding).

PS: As an intermediate step, you can try to repare Vista with the installation DVD, by rebooting on the DVD itself.

I hope that my remarks will help you. <_<

Hmm i dont know but i got after [swich] 90 days....

@fishcracker

If your problems dont stop you could test gdata anti-virus 2010 with box's trail reset.... the 2010 is much better then the 2009!!!

It uses 2 engines.... It has the best detection of malware and others.. A lot of test's shows that...

Edit:

I searched searched searched...... Do you have the application Folder Lock??? If you have that then uninstall it and tell me if the Bluescreens still happen!

Or it can be a Trojan/Backdoor as on this page they say the file is infected: http://greatis.com/appdata/d/w/winfl32.sys.htm

If you dont have the App Folder Lock ur for sure infected with the Trojan/Backdoor and you should reinstall your vista as soon you can!!!

I just found the file name on superantispyware page who says its a Trojan.Dropper/Sys-NV.Process!

If you cant find the Folder Lock app on your computer then install superantispyware(download it from nsanedown page) it can find the infected file but i think the file you have is from FolderLock as much users reported that it makes blue screens....

The NTR 3.3 for N360Premier is still 30 days. For the N360Standard, it is 90 days.

LOL! 360 premier!! Man you are so funny!! Do you know whats the difference between 360 and 360 premier?

360 has 2gb online backup service and the premier has 25gb....

As i know with the trail version online backup isnt possible and so not usefull for us!!!

Kotaxor, sorry what i meant to say was that i just wanted an opinion on a good/better antivirus/firewall/all in one, other than any of the norton products.

@ tonyblair

Thanks for the clarification about the 30 day trial.

As far as your advice on reinstalling windows, I've reinstalled vista and everything to factory state twice since the Bsods started to occur (a couple of months ago) and they've still happened.

And yeah it is hard when it comes to debugging i've tried it on a couple of computers but it is very difficult

@BBs

Yes i do have folder lock. And as a matter of fact, i've had since before the first bsod and reinstalled it right after i reinstalled vista again.

I will uninstall it and maybe just install it within a portable drive? and i'll let you know how it went.

Thanks for the support guys i'll post back any results.

Hi BBs,

I agree with you. I will never use online backup of my data.

I got the Premium trial version without knowing what is it. I first tried the OEM version 90 days, but it stayed at 3.0.0.134 whatever I do (automatic upgrade). So to get the 3.0.0.135 version I downloaded the first I find in Norton site, that "Premium".

Thank you for comments, I will get rid of it and find the standard trial version (90 days is better than 30days). ;)

@fishcracker,

Some other hints :

1- did you format your HDD before reinstalling Vista (to clean any root virus)?

2- did you modify your hardware recently? (new graphic card ..., new drivers)

@ tonyblair

1-hmmm... i don't think i did that. unless the restore cds did that automatically but no i didn't do manually.

2-I sent my notebook for repair not too long ago (it's a new system). They replaced the PCBA inverter, the whole lcd including cables and cover.

I did mention the bsod to my manufacturer but they assured me it was not hardware related and it had to do with my antivirus but didn't do anything about the blue screens. They only fixed the problem that i had with color fading/flickering.

After i got it back and after the first bsod, i ran the windbg and all i could find from the reports was windows realted. Nothing on a different vendor. And i'd assume if those hardware changes were the ones that made the blue screens, they would show up. But again, til this point i haven't found a solution to this mess.

Sorry i hadn't mention this before but the version of folder lock that i had (just uninstalled) was with a serial that i found. I blocked folder lock from any internet access because many times before, when it would connect to the internet, it would detect that the key was blacklisted.

So now i'm just wondering as i wait for a blue screen if the fact that i blocked internet access was the cause of these.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

One major key in troubleshooting is to find the good parameters (and environment) to force the problem to be REPRODUCIBLE.

1- Is it the case now? Does the BSOD happen in a well defined situation? (for example : same application running, connection to internet live ...).

If it is not the case, we have to find the situation step by step (brick by brick as a wall) :

2-From a fresh installation , without any application installed like Antivirus, or others exotic applications , without internet link (offline) : do you get the BSOD?

If by chance the answer is no, Then you install the application one by one to catch the BDOD event (the aim is to limit the number of parameters involved in the problem).

Is it possible to have the answer for the second question?
