smallhagrid
I am curious about Owncloud - and thinking about trying it out.Especially I wonder if it allows file access that is just like local file access even though it is on a web server someplace ??Anybody here using it and have thoughts to share about it ??Thanks. Kalju
Tell me a bit more about what and how you think about.
smallhagrid
I have some hosted space. If it can be used via Owncloud for file access, then I can use a file I put in there from a friend's house, or wherever - just with a log-in via browser (I think ?!?).So if I have a to-do list and want to get at it when I am visiting, I can open it, edit it, and save it just like it was a local file - yes ??Like that. I hope this makes it a little clearer...?Thanks.
Kalju
Thanks, now I understand. In fact, it is possible, but not quite so, as usually on computer. And secondly - not all the portals do not allow it.So, it depends on many things, and is not possible to give a single answer. All depends on what your portal allows. smallhagrid
Thanks Kalju.I'm uncertain if we are discussing the same thing here...?(From http://owncloud.org/)Access. Sync. Share.ownCloud provides universal access to your files via the web, your computer or your mobile devices — wherever you are.It also provides a platform to easily view & sync your contacts, calendars and bookmarks across all your devices and enables basic editing right on the web.Getting started is simple: ownCloud runs on almost every server and doesn’t require special permissions. Your own instance is only a few mouse clicks away!Owncloud gets installed into one's own hosting for whatever uses it features & the user/owner allows. The whole point of Owncloud as it is explained is to have and/or host your own stuff in the cloud - either from your own server or hosted space.(http://doc.owncloud.org/server/6.0/user_manual/) It's claims seem to say these things are all possible and work well - but all s/w makes claims - I'm hoping someone may tell me what is real and what is vapour about this one.My question really, specifically regards how it's file system works when logged into it remotely.Uncertain what you mean by 'portal' with regards to Owncloud...?Please explain what this means as you've said it ??Thanks.
