My thoughts about Emsisoft

After using Emsisoft ISP8 for a while I've become to this conclusion.

Pros:

  • Easy to switch between Modes using hotkeys, i.e Advanced > Banking
  • Small installer, when measured between Bitdefender / Emsisoft
  • Kinda lightweight, though eats ram quite a lot, but still this belongs to Pros section
  • Very cool GUI
  • Doesn't slow down system start-up
  • Extremely fast for a Antivirus
  • Kinda cheap license for a year

Cons:

  • Makes AppData folder extremely slow to navigate
  • Makes BitTorrent unresponding and slow
  • Anti-Malmware needs double activation before it stays activated
  • Software updates might become a bit more difficult
  • For a novice user kinda hard Antivirus to configure
  • 3 system tray icons
  • No Online-Armor desktop icon by default

Grade:

I've owned Emsisoft Antimalware in the past and nearly all the cons you list are not there. For me Emsisoft is the most honest anti-malware company, with high quality products that don't cost a fortune to own or subscribe to (ehm, ehm, Kaspersky, ehm ehm). I also liked their behaviour-based only product, Mamutu, but they discontinued it.

@Therru I used Emsisoft until 2 days ago when I won a Webroot key, I never experienced what you did (from the Cons list, with only 1 exception).

Makes AppData folder extremely slow to navigate - never experienced

  • Makes BitTorrent unresponding and slow - never experienced
  • Anti-Malmware needs double activation before it stays activated - I have experienced, it's a know bug I think, since it always happen.
  • Software updates might become a bit more difficult- never experienced, it updates automatically, it can download up to 10 updates at the same time if you have speed.
  • For a novice user kinda hard Antivirus to configure - For me it doesn't seem, but I'm not a novice and I don't comment.
  • 3 system tray icons - never experienced
  • No Online-Armor desktop icon by default - Yes, but that's just like a futuristic "firewall".

It's a decent AV, very configuarable (so not to delete cracks etc)

The firewall went to pieces quite a while ago. Shame as it used to be good. (I gave up and switched to Outpost FW. Much better)
