I'm using windows 7 and many of you believe that Windows 7 is better than Windows 8 and now microsoft will launch between a year and maybe even less Windows 9. It is worth to wait for the new OS without upgrade Windows 7 with Windows 8? What do you think about ? You already know something for sure?

I'm happy with win 7 as I was with xp. Windows Vista I have not ever considered. I do not think that win 8 is better than win 7, but there is always the possibility that the new operating system (win 9) takes the best of the systems that preceded it.

well, if Windows 7 is fine for you, then just stay, you will have a hard time adapting to windows 8/8.1

Honestly, I prefer windows 8.1 than windows 7, dunno why, it feels more stable to me, and have a great battery life on notebook, and if you want some windows 7 style in windows 8.1, you can easily install StartIsBack, and say good bye to start screen

The question is, xp was fine for years, then came out Vista and we know the problems that Vista had.

Then Microsoft fixes and features Windows 7. Times change (touch screen and exasperated connectivity ) Windows 8 arrives, quickly corrected with Windows 8.1. Now the question is whether to continue to upgrade the operating systems at the risk of being another Vista or wait for the good one.

Personally I think I'll go ahead with Seven because it meets my needs.

Microsoft is changing too frequently its products and hypotheses are 3:

- Must keep pace with the times

- Something is wrong and must be corrected

- Must earn more

It 's true that as you say, if it works well with W7 not change, or try W8 but I was wondering if it was worth the risk of installing an OS (W8) that in a short time will perhaps supplanted by W9

The only reason why I am using Windows 8 -- well, upgraded it to 8.1 Pro, as I bought it when it was CAD$70 in 2012 -- is because the laptop I have came with it. My other laptop that is getting fixed has Windows 7 on it.

besides usability concerns, you also should take into consideration hardware requirements for 8...

( and im not up to speed on that, Im an XP Win 7 guy)

...but i would think that Win 8 is more ram hungry and system resource hungry?

On the plus side more optimised for multi-core cpus? ( im guessing here)

..AND if you convert to 8 you may find that you have a weaker 8 machine than a stronger 7 machine!

for example XP runs just nicely with 1 gig of ram and blazes with 2 gigs while 7 would relatively weak with just 1 gig of ram.

especially if you are a gaming enthusiast!

something to think about! I dont know what you have hardware wise ( mobo cpu ram video card etc)

you know how StartPage.com Search works,

look for system resource comparisions between the OS'es and Hardware requirements comparisions.

Im sure someone out there in this fine tech community has done a side-by-side comparison,

also check you tube! some fine folks there, and very supportive !

Have Fun :)

no, my Acer One netbook ran beautifully on Windows 8 and runs even better on 8.1. When I upgraded to 2 gig of RAM I can do anything productive with it without issues
