[Solved] Switchable Graphics Issue!

Roger D

Recommended Posts

Recently, I bought a new DELL Touch Laptop with Windows 8.1 Preinstalled. It has 2GB AMD Graphics and Intel HD Graphics.

Sshot_1.jpg

And In Desktop Context menu, there is link for control panel of both the graphics..

Sshot_2.jpg

But in Ccleaner window I can see only Intel graphics..

Sshot_3.jpg

In System Information, it clearly shows both the graphics..

Sshot_4.jpg

Now when I tried switchable graphics control panel to ensure running some of Applications under AMD Graphics, viz a media player, Splash Pro EX( selected the Performance option over power saving option).. and played a video file in Splash Pro..when I checked the GPU usage through AMD System Monitor , it didn't show any Gpu activity.. :(

then As SlimRock stated that driver for AMD might not be pre installed..I downloaded the stable driver and installed it..but after that when I restarted my system i got BSOD..well after 2-3 BSOD my system started running but now I couldn't even open the switchable graphics control panel... :( :(

After that much Headache... I finally rolled back my system to previous state..Thanks to AX64 Time Machine..

Now plz can you guys help me to figure out what really is going inside..?

Is it possible to switch to AMD only? or

Should I leave my system as it is??

Uninstall current Intel & AMD drivers from ur pc & install latest AMD drivers from AMD Website not from Dell website ......... this will solve ur switchable graphice issue

So only AMD graphics will work as a default graphics & no intel graphics

I;ve done the same with my HP 431 Notebook with Win 8.1 Pro & it worked

i think what nexus said here is right uninstall all graphics driver and install first the intel gfx driver, then amd gfx driver and then the catalyst control centre(in this particular order) should solve ur problems, btw what did the CC advised u?

Why from AMD website but not from DELL. ?

I've already tried downloading and installing from AMD website.. the size of the driver was (stable release) 201 MB.. but after installing the driver BSOD started..so finally I uninstalled it.. :(

but what I downloaded from DEll website (link given by Dell CC) is of 277 MB... B)

Now working on this..

Now It seems after reinstalling the driver from Dell website, the issue has resolved..

This is how i checked..

I added Splash Pro to the list to run under Performance in switchable graphics option..

then Played a video file in Splash Pro and run AMD System Monitor to observe the GPU usage..

  it's working.. :showoff:

Now if i disable Intel Graphics in Device Manager.. Then the default graphics switches to MS Basic Displaty Driver.. :(

and this old version of AMD System Monitor has now started problem.. If I run it, the whole system gets hang.. I can't play any video file or open a picture.. :duh:

So going to uninstall it..

that means gfx driver problem for sure, when u will have the correct driver this problem will be solved automatically,

i read through and saw u had 2p.m. appointment make sure to eat the CC's mind

did u try my way, uninstall drivers and then correctly and orderly installing them, might just work out

The only thing she knows at last is the Factory Restore..

Anyway after restoring my Lappy to Factory settings..everything is now working..(Including Hibernation and Sleep Mode)  :P

Now just suggest me..( I doubt these were the reasons behind Graphics issue..) :)

Should I upgrade my win8.1 basic to Win8.1 Pro WMC?

should I update my Graphics driver( I'm getting updates thru Windows update for both the graphics Drivers) ?

Then I simply removed both the graphics driver one by one..and finally installed the driver downloaded from Dell website.. but after successful installation.. it still says the same.. No driver found for AMD.. :(

then I tried DDU for uninstallation of drivers..

one strange thing happened..this time I tried installing driver downloaded from AMD website (stable release).. but it got installed in Program Files(x86) ?? does it mean the driver was of 32bit?? coz it didn't work.. :(
