Internal to external hard drive

I have an Internal Sata 3.5 hard drive that I want to convert to USB external HD. Here is a pic showing what I believe the connectors and adapter looks like:

The top sata cable is for the adapter (I believe). IS the sata cable connected to the left part of the adapter, is that for power? The cable next to on the left, is that for power which is need for the adapter and needs an end to plug into the wall? Is the roundish cable to the external USB? If someone could show me a graphic to what goes where that would be awesome.

If someone could answer me i would appreciate it.

this adapter on the picture = the sata cable goes to the sata connector of the hd and then you have a power connector that go to the power of the satapower on the hd.

after all is connected you can plug in the power and use the usb cable to connect to the pc or laptop usb port.

I have an adapter very similar to the one shown. 1st - there are 2 hard drives there. The top is for a laptop (IDE non-SATA). The black adapter is plugged into it. The silver cable coming out goes to USB (also shown). The red cable (SATA) plugged into the black box is going to the drive on the bottom. The larger cable on the bottom (left) is the power for the drive - that is supplied by a power adapter that comes with the kit. I guess with the configuration shown - 2 drives would be visible if the USB is plugged in. I've never tried that though.

unknownasphyxiated

only 3.5' hdd/desktop hdd need to use external power

2.5' hdd/laptop hdd doesn't need external power, just usb power

it is better to buy external enclosure if you want to use it as portable

sata for data connection

usb for power(2.5' hdd) & data

this might help
