rawyolks
Hello. Could someone recommend a free antivirus which is unattended, maintenance-free, hope you understand what do I mean. It is supposed to block every potencial threat, delete every possible malware, without asking, clicking, whatever. It's for a young boy computer which I'm tired of constantly disinfecting and/or formatting because of viruses from warez, cracks, porn etc. Thanks in advance. AlexCross
It's for a young boy computer which I'm tired of constantly disinfecting and/or formatting because of viruses from warez, cracks, porn etc :))I would recommend K9 Web Protection, it's free, it won't let him acces anything from that category if he doesn't have the password, or Shadow Defender/RollBack RX, Rollback Free to revert all changes to default upon restart or going to a specifically snapshot (depends of the chosen software).AVs are not the answer for this case in my opinion. MrX
@rawyolksBad news for you, since there's no perfect AV solution, and never will be, you are asking for a mission impossible. Everyday are hundreds of new malware releases and new cyber attacks which exploits systems. In your case, the best way to just reduce those attacks and infections is user education.Although looking at AlexCross post above mine, this could help to mitigate somewhat those malware attacks, give it a try but user behavior and education is more important. rawyolks
Does it work good on non-English sites?
AlexCross
You want to know more about Unrated sites and how to block them. SolutionUnrated sites or web pages are those that do not belong to a K9 category, and for which Blue Coat's Dynamic Real-Time Rating system cannot yet determine a rating.Blue Coat does not recommend blocking all unrated sites, but the option exists if you wish to block all pages that Blue Coat cannot determine a rating for.If you do want to block all unrated web pages:Launch K9 from your Start menu, click Setup, and login with your administrative password. Once you have logged in, select Custom under the Protection Level section.Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure Block Unrated Web Pages is enabled. Please remember to click Save at the bottom of the page. sid_16
You can use 'Reboot and restore', 'Shadow defender' (trial), 'Sandboxie' and configure it to restore PC at every reboot (after cleaning/formatting). Disable the ability to download files on all of your browsers, use a program like DDownloads which only list trusted files.Use WinPatrol Free which will block the most common infections since most will require to run at system startup, add drivers, scheduled tasks or services in order to successful run. WinPatrol also protects changes to Internet Explorer which most infections will try to change. Edited February 22, 2014 by sid_16
nanana1
I'll recommend Shadow Defender for your boy. :p
AlexCross
That isn;t realy the answer, since it needs to be well configured to not delete important files, don't forget, it's for a child.
NightWalker
K9 Web Protection is very good, you could use Open DNS Parental Controls with Avast! Free, it would make a nice free uncomplicated setup.Webroot SecurityAnywhere Antivirus (I can give you a key) + Shadow Defender + Open DNS would make a amazing paid combo.http://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/opendns-home/
brain_death
BitDefender AV Free...Just what you're looking for and among the highest rated AV's too!Did I mention that it's really free? :wtf:
rawyolks
Okay. Fresh install of Windows, child user account, Bitdefender free, MVPS HOSTS and Comodo's DNS setup in wi-fi router. Hope it will be enough. If not I probably won't use software like "reboot restore" etc., but most likely I'll burn an Ubuntu LiveDVD and give kid the most valuable life lesson - clean your own mess. Today I didn't have enough time and will to play with that K9 software. But for sure I will check out soon. Thanks. And sorry for bad English. Holmes
He's looking for unattended and maintenance free not only a free antivirus. The program shadow defender is good the author stopped maintaining it. The program webroot antivirus look at virusbulletin avcomparatives and avtest all the antivirus testing sites it does a amateur job. I have avast pro (avast free can work I have it setup on my moms computer unattended maintenance free I needed to set it up that way) and my computer I have set to unattended maintenance free to. Get sandboxie adblock plus and install a hosts file and depending on what browser is used if they use internet explorer you can go into security tab and put all the sites they use in trusted zone and leave the restricted zone and all sites they access can be entered and all they dont use get blocked automatically. You can use kaspersky to I use tdsskiller as one of my disinfecting tools and if avast died tomorrow guess which antivirus I use next KASPERSKY. You dont only get a free antivirus with avast one of the most popular powerful anti-rootkit programs gmer author now works for avast and avast gots gmer technology integrated now which makes avast with boot-time scan a ruthless rootkit killing machine. You can use rollback rx if you use windows 98 or linux it doesnt have system restore otherwise your adding to installed programs list and slowing the computer down. If you want a antivirus that is unattended maintenance free automatically without you having to set anything if kaspersky or bitdefender doesnt have it it doesnt exist sorry.. DLord
You can configure almost any AV to just do that.
AlienForce1
I think that AlexCross already gave you the solution -> ShadowDefender (it doesn`t matter on what sites goes your boy , or whatever bad-cracked game he installs -> after RESET it`s all gone and the PC is like in the moment you did first installed Windows) Edited February 23, 2014 by AlienForce1

Impossible mate....Been looking for one throughout my IT career....But as @NightWalker suggested. You may wish to consider signing up & put OpenDns (Free) settings into your router / modem..Can even cater for dynamic ip's....... Set up in a few minutesYou can cut out adult, warez, malware, chat sites etc....in an instant along with other security loopholes....Great black / white-list options...I have been using OpenDns for years to easily assist our corporate network's internet content filtering / added malware protection with great logs & zero downside...
