Ramjade
Hi,I would like to ask how to fix this error. I got an error while doing my routine monthly backup with IFW. I aborted the process. Is it a serious issue?Should I be worried? Can I just restore to previous backup image and try to backup again?
mike.mt
I would like to ask how to fix this error. I got an error while doing my routine monthly backup with IFW. I aborted the process. Is it a serious issue?*Should I be worried? Can I just restore to previous backup image and try to backup again?*As the drive contains your System Partition... The answer is Yes...The errors indicate that sectors cannot be accessed, due to failure / weak heads..... :(How do you permanently fix this?... The short answer is you cannot.... :( When pending drive failure rears its ugly head there is no real cure..My advice would be to firstly clone the drive to another with HDClone/ Acronis / Easeus or similar programs that will perform the function & ignore / skip bad sectors.... Then test to ensure that the new drive can still boot..Download WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows,,,,.http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=612&sid=3 & run a short test....Should the drive fail the WD short test, then the drive is faulty according to Western Digital parameters (if it was under warranty, then it would be replaced by them), it is safe to say that the drive can be in "normal working condition".After you have recovered data from it, the only thing you can do to possibly prolong its life is to zero-fill (i.e. fully overwrite) the drive and regularly monitor its SMART data for signs of problems. But the drive is likely to continue deteriorating, and you could lose the data on it.....Personally I don't agree with continually scanning a failing drive with CHKDSK / HDD Regenerator or other tools, until it has been cloned. Even if you have accepted the risks of DIY recovery attempts, you always stand a chance of making the situation worse....., by "Diagnosing The Drive To Death" as I have seen people do in other forums & drives brought to us for hopeful data recovery. :( :( :(Hope this assists you in your choice of what to do next.. This is the result. If I use the Easeus, how to clone the my C drive and restore it later on? I am planning on using the portable version uploaded here. I am planning on using the portable version uploaded here.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I don't understand the question.... As all decent imaging / cloning software providers have detailed step by step manuals that should be read b4 attempting anything....As your drive is a 2.5" & probably in a notebook.. My advice is take it out & clone it to a new drive from a stand alone / tower machine...Should you try to clone from your current machine.. You are going to have to mess around with extra USB enclosures or adapters.... If you follow this route create rescue disk & do it from "Boot Rescue Media" Mode & not directly from Windows.... As you stand the chance of making things worse. If you cannot get your hands on the components required to do the job.. probably best to take it along to a Tech you trust & get them to do it for you.
