The bigger picture right now, ~3 years after the start of Fuku's blow-up is that there are actually 3 major events which are ongoing.

Even excluding any other causes or events - these, together could cause an ELE - here are the 3 biggies:

1 - The toxicity being spewed into the world ocean by Fukushima (worse than the radiation actually).

2 - The ongoing gulf oil spill which was never capped or stopped.

3 - Methane being released from methane hydrates world-wide.

Of course there are other, lesser things going on relating to chemicals being applied in huge amounts, the acidification of the ocean, serious changes in ocean currents, climate and the land itself - the list is almost endless right now, BUT...

The 3 ongoing events mentioned above join at one important point:

To have breathable air.

Here is how they join:

It is needed for there to be a living ocean as it's various plants & creatures make a significant amount of the air non-stop;

The oil & associated crud is poisoning the ocean rapidly as is the toxic crud from Fuku.

The methane is displacing good air and is deadly to most air-breathing creatures.

As to the Fuku disaster itself, the highly toxic (and radioactive) spewage that has never stopped - will continue and will remain deadly for thousands of years - even if the radioactive parts of it do not kill most everything - it is so highly toxic that no part of the planet is safe from it via air, water and all other means of it spreading.

Personally - what amazes me is how after almost 3 years of this deadly spewage all that is happening in response is arguing and finger-pointing while most people who watch TV daily think it is old news and not worth looking at anymore.

T'was fake.

The supposed 'cap' was placed at a different location and the very well-known insider who revealed this died mysteriously right after blowing the whistle on it.

It was impossible to stop for 2 main reasons:

1 - There was no longer any well casing.

2 - It was in deeper water than any existing technology was able to cope with.

If you look further into this you will see that oil drilling in very deep water has problems and hazards for which no solutions yet exist.

Even if you prefer not to believe this as an ongoing event - the other stuff is killing sea life at a rate never before seen and this is no laughing matter.

Addendum:
BTW - I completely agree with your obvious assertion that the Fuku disaster is hugely serious, ongoing and will affect all life on this planet for a huge length of time.

I agree 100% - FUBAR.

This does not depress me however because that would not be helpful to me or anyone (especially because there is really nothing I could do to change whatever is happening with all this stuff).

It does make me very curious however...here's one example:

Focusing upon JUST the nuclear tea kettles for a minute - here is a very long question that I've always asked=>

I do not place any huge credibility in anything by Clif High (likely a made-up name) - but he is a brilliant and charismatic speaker - and in the above he makes some very good points.

To my thinking, it is 100% baffling when I wonder what sort of creature might want this planet covered in oily radioactive ooze - and also I think that it will be a mercy to be killed rather than to witness whatever comes next.

My take upon a good, useful & proper response is simpler than most - I think that many, many folks should just quit everything - stay home with their loved ones - quit paying bills - refuse to work - just resist all this world's BS passively & harmlessly.

Where will all the banksters/gangsters turn if they suddenly cannot control folks and make them do the dirty work to keep the banksters filthy, wastefully rich ??
