800x600 is web standard.

I use a different resolution on linux (1280 x 1024) to the one i use on windows (1152 x 864).

800x600 is web standard.

5 years ago perhaps, but in 2005? Surely not. I always thought 1024 x 768 was web standard these days :(

The 640×480 resolution, introduced with the IBM PS/2 VGA and MCGA (multi-color) on-board graphics chips, was the standard resolution from 1990 to around 1996, partly due to its 4:3 ratio. 800×600 was the standard resolution until around 2000. Since then, 1024×768 has been the standard resolution. Many web sites and multimedia products are designed for this resolution.

Well I've also seen this mentioned several times in PC magazines as well, for example ComputerActive, PC Pro, Web User & Micro Mart.

My information is slightly different. A larger % of users use 800 x 600.... 23.4% comes to mind. It might be more users use 1024 x 768, BUT websites (ie the "standard" or norm) is still 800 x 600....

I agree that more users use 800 x 600 but I think the majority of websites cater for higher resoultions.

Imperceptible

1024x768 here. My friend hates it because I have a 19inch CRT Flat and thinks I should use 1280x1024 or higher, but I don't like it because of the low refresh rates and everything is so small. Plus I play most games at 1024x768 so when I load/quit a game the screen doesn't have to keep changing. I would also tend to agree that alot of websites build their sites for 1024 since when I tried surfing the web using 2048x1536, I noticed alot of sites took up only half the page. Except for Google, you could load about 9 of them.

1280X1024

Love the 'small-ness' wish mine could go higher but then it doesn't display properly when I try.

1680 x 1050 @ 60hz Here (22" Widescreen TFT) - BTW the vote returns an error!?!?

Doesn't here.
