Turk
By Cromwell Schubarth Jan 30, 2014, 12:48pm PST It probably won't go anywhere near as viral as Scarlett Johannson's Sodastream ad, but a new infographic from the folks at HubSpot is an entertaining Super Bowl-themed stunt. It pits the PayPal Mafia vs. the Bill Walsh NFL Coaching Tree. The entrepreneurs and investors involved in launching and selling PayPal have since been involved in LinkedIn, Tesla, YouTube, Yelp, 500 Startups and more.Coaches who worked for Walsh at Stanford and the San Francisco 49ers went on to become some of the most successful in the NFL.So Hubspot lined the teams up in "competitions:"— Winning the Big One: The PayPal Mafia's five IPOs were rated more impressive than the Walsh team's six Super Bowl titles. The reason? Less than 1 percent of startups get to an IPO and a third of the companies launched by PayPal alumni got there. One of 32 NFL teams win a Super Bowl each year.—Company Clout: Walsh's coaches headed up 60 percent of NFL teams. PayPal folks founded 23 companies. They would have to employ three of every five tech employees in the country to equal the Walsh squad, HubSpot reasoned.— Individual Success: PayPal produced four billionaires. Walsh produced six NFL coaches of the year. Again the odds of winning the NFL honor are much higher than becoming a billionaire, so the PayPal team won this one.—Longevity: Walsh's crew won this category with a collective 160 years as an NFL coach vs. the PayPal squad's 93 years as C-level execs or founders. That resulted in a tie that was broken with an overtime that was based on academic pedigree. Eleven PayPal-ers attended Top 10 schools and only two of Walsh's coaches played for Top 10 schools. So PayPal wins, HubSpot declared, with Elon Musk declared as the most valuable player of the match. His net worth is estimated at $8.8 billion, or the approximated value of the five richest NFL teams: the Cowboys, Patriots, Redskins, Giants and Texans.Click here to see the full infographic.Click here to subscribe to TechFlash Silicon Valley, the free daily email newsletter about founders and funders in the region.http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2014/01/30/paypal-mafia-beats-bill-walsh-nfl.html?page=allPaypal Mafia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal_Mafia
