northboun
I always delete all partitions and format the Hard Drive when I install windows so there is less chance of any virus/spyware surviving although a quick format may be the better idea with the new SSD drives. Airstream_Bill
I think that is a little bit of Overkill. If one thinks he has a Virus I suppose it is ok. It is OK to be redundant but I do not think that is necessary. You should use an Imaging program to back up your System and then you can fool around with it and then put it back the way you had it before fooling around with programs etc.

Polonium
I have seen these symptoms before. Another reformat and clean Windows reinstall will not be the solution. Most likely, your resources are being used up by some application.Could be a combination of slow processor, low available RAM and a resource demanding Anti-Virus, maybe an infected application that you reinstall. You need to provide your system details: Processor, RAM, Operating System (which version of Windows), Anti-Virus and anything you think is relevant to get help and advice on this matter.Do you know how to use HiJackThis? FukenGruven
I'll relay my setup.. (after many years of using Windows)1. Use PortableApps on a separate partition (security, convenience, performance, and overall HD size is reduced)2. use Windows' Backup & Restore.- install Windows .. set it up like how you want it.. then create a System Image BackupBenefits:- after restoring w/Backed up Sytem Images.. your PortabelApps are NOT affected.. and continue to work.- takes approximately 5 minutes to backup & restore- you can then disable System Restore, File History, avoid AV Software.. because you can simply restore if you run into trouble.- in addition.. i can mount my System Image Backups and retrieve files in Windows Environment. There are many other benefits, tips, tricks.. but too many to cover on a post..after implementing.. you'll discover them on your own..I only install when a new OS is released.ie. Windows 7.. i installed once.. and kept using/updating my System Image backups.
mike.mt
As Airstream_Bill & FunkenGruven mentioned, using a decent backup / imaging app can save you hours of hassle in many scenarios.
