vnoctober
Just recently, we learned that Modern apps can not only appear on the taskbar, but also be pinned, in the upcoming Update 1 for Windows 8.1. Now, we are treated with a slightly better screenshot showcasing the taskbar with a few Metro apps pinned to it.From what we learned yesterday, there is an option in the taskbar properties that allows you to 'Show Store apps on the taskbar.' This feature will be available in Update 1 for Windows 8.1. As you can see in the image above, and below, this option blurs the line between Windows Store apps and the desktop, making it easier to switch between the two. With this feature, you can see all the running Modern apps on your taskbar - a simple yet convenient feature. Windows 8.1 Update 1 is rumored to arrive in April of this year, during the Build 2014 Developer Conference. calguyhunk
Quit trying to reinvent the wheel ....sheesh!!Pretty sure they still won't get it right with this 'Update 1' thingamajig, but to destroy something that already worked fine in the first place, and then work backwards from there trying to undo their mistakes one at a time, is ludicrous to say the least. :wtf:Also sad is how they didn't really do a focus group study before coming out with the modern app/tiled interface monstrosity, or if they did, didn't pay much attention to the negative feedback anyways, 'cuz I can't believe that the desktop/workstation using target regular Joe/Jane would have had a lot of praise for this weird half-baked concoction! :mad2:

jackieo
Great Video! I love to see possible alternatives in operating systems - and I dont sit all day and watch linux videos, but this was nice one and the guy is knowledgeable and concise in the presentation!only thing that concerns me is compatibility and drivers with hardware components - a big can of worms, and Linux to me would be a huge learning curve, and I just dont have the time anymore to devote to such a mountain of info that I would need, just to even THINK about going in that direction...I toyed with Mandrake 7 back in 2004, just to get a glimpse of what it would be "like" to live in the land of Linus Torvalds, who i found out about by watching a little cable tv network called Tech TV, and shows like Call For Help and The Screen Savers!Thats where I learned how to build a computer from the motherboard up, ( they did a step-by-step build on The Screen Savers show)and inspired me to dive into windows head first, and thrive on everything that we know today! So! Thats when i made the decision to abandon Linux as a possible alternative 2nd OS, the geek aspect was just too huge for me.I do have respect for those in the community who thrive on Linux though because it really is a nice gig, I just dont have the time -I have to devote myself to in so many dynamic directions these days, to go Linux would set me back years, while the clock keeps moving forward. So cheers all ! long winded (sorry) but I am not against a challenge, but- these days time management takes the stage over alternative thinking. But i do like to peek in now and then, to see "how its going"Thanks for sharing ! :) I love the Nsane community and how we share ideas and support each other !No place like home for the Nsane Minds :showoff: :D :s  :wtf: :pos:  :) :PHers an inspiring blast from the past! - Tech TV - THIS is where it all began! :) ( off topic, whatever)Call For Help! with Chris Pirillo - (Call For Help! was Windows 101 - The basics - Nuts n Bolts ) The Screen Savers! with Patrick Norton and Leo Laporte (The Screen Savers! was the Advanced Class - Windows, Linux, networking, hacking, modding, gaming, etc) Edited January 24, 2014 by jackieo
