Can you use system restore to a time when it did work?

its dual boot XP & W7 where XP as main. So sys restore not working if files deleted after reboot.

Ballistic Gelatin

If you can boot into Safe Mode, try System Restore in that environment.

Also, if/when you get your system back up...

Happy User with No AV

I'd strongly recommend installing a good AV, such as Kaspersky. Your issue sounds like a possible virus, and another layer of protection won't hurt, even if it affects performance a bit.

Good luck.

sadly, I forgot to back-up /take snapshot while running fine.

speaking about AV, I would not hurt my PC performance. SD or sandboxed browser was good enough security for me. In addition, I regularly run full scan with MBAM Pro.

AV just cosmetic not necessary for me. I hate its FP's could arise.

Wow this is a new one! I will be watching this thread for a solution.

I think its time to reinstall ! Thats what i would do, no Device Mgr, no Services,

this is not good....I kinda feel like its something simple like a missing dll file or something stupid like that?

Did you run a registry sweeper recently? Those are notorious for this kind of stuff

If you figure out what happened, be sure to post it here so we can all share in the learning process :)

Try

To resolve this behavior, set the startup type for Plug and Play to Automatic. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Double-click Plug and Play.

If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.
  3. In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK.
  4. Close Services.
  5. Restart the computer.

sfc /scannow did but not worked.

If you mean sfc /scannow showed no errors, then you can move along.

If you mean sfc /scannow showed error BUT could not fix them, try this command using admin prompt.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Sounds like spudboy is on the correct course ...

You can set your service starts back to default with Black Viper's reg files ... pick you correct version of Windows 7, download and unzip the file then run the reg file.

I like to use the "Safe" version of his Windows 7 Reg files.

Booting into Safe Mode means there may be less likelihood that a corrupt driver(s) will be loaded that might impede a successful System Restore. That's just my theory, though. When I was still using Windows XP on an IBM ThinkPad T43, I was constantly having problems running System Restore unless I invoked it after entering Safe Mode. The problem was probably specific to my machine only, not to all XP users in general.

I also believe spudboy's recommendation might work by restoring the registry entries for your Services. You might also try booting into Safe Mode in Windows XP and trying the option, "Last Known Good Configuration", which would theoretically restore your system's registry entries that permitted your machine to operate properly.

have a look and used "safe" version and progress nothing

Sounds like you were messing about with Windows Services & disabled something you shouldn't have.

last time I used Rejzor avast uninstaller to remove AV from XP

XP is fine. Problem inside W7.

Action center won't open

Dev manager won't open

Display won't open

Power option won't open

Sensors won't open

Taskbar won't open

troubleshooting won't open

Win firewall won't open

and all of those icon missing ( see again screenie above )

it drove me CRAZY. I know last option is RE-INSTALL but I will not go this time. May be some of you will give me some magic solution to solve this nuts.
