Ballistic Gelatin
If you can boot into Safe Mode, try System Restore in that environment. Also, if/when you get your system back up...Happy User with No AVI'd strongly recommend installing a good AV, such as Kaspersky. Your issue sounds like a possible virus, and another layer of protection won't hurt, even if it affects performance a bit.Good luck.

SD or sandboxed browser was good enough security for me. In addition, I regularly run full scan with MBAM Pro.AV just cosmetic not necessary for me. I hate its FP's could arise. jackieo
Wow this is a new one! I will be watching this thread for a solution.I think its time to reinstall ! Thats what i would do, no Device Mgr, no Services, this is not good....I kinda feel like its something simple like a missing dll file or something stupid like that?Did you run a registry sweeper recently? Those are notorious for this kind of stuffIf you figure out what happened, be sure to post it here so we can all share in the learning process :) Edited January 23, 2014 by jackieo
Warrior
Try To resolve this behavior, set the startup type for Plug and Play to Automatic. To do so, follow these steps:Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK. Double-click Plug and Play. If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK. In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK. Close Services. pepperoni
Sounds like spudboy is on the correct course ...You can set your service starts back to default with Black Viper's reg files ... pick you correct version of Windows 7, download and unzip the file then run the reg file.http://www.blackviper.com/2009/10/03/windows-7-services-registry-files/I like to use the "Safe" version of his Windows 7 Reg files. Ballistic Gelatin
If you can boot into Safe Mode, try System Restore in that environment.just curious, what different between "Safe Mode" sys restore env and regular basis ?Booting into Safe Mode means there may be less likelihood that a corrupt driver(s) will be loaded that might impede a successful System Restore. That's just my theory, though. When I was still using Windows XP on an IBM ThinkPad T43, I was constantly having problems running System Restore unless I invoked it after entering Safe Mode. The problem was probably specific to my machine only, not to all XP users in general.I also believe spudboy's recommendation might work by restoring the registry entries for your Services. You might also try booting into Safe Mode in Windows XP and trying the option, "Last Known Good Configuration", which would theoretically restore your system's registry entries that permitted your machine to operate properly.
