geeteam Posted December 31, 2013 Share Posted December 31, 2013 We feel pretty confident that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will be a killer smartphone, but one question remains: Will Samsung finally follow in the footsteps of the iPhone 5s and the HTC One and use a premium aluminum build or will it stick with its tried-and-true plastic formula? The latest gossip from Korea’s ETNews suggests that Samsung may release two flagship smartphones at the same time next year. The Galaxy S5, which will have Samsung’s trademark plastic casing, and the Galaxy F, which will be the first flagship Samsung smartphone to have a metal casing. The Korean website reports that Samsung has already developed a Galaxy F prototype in Europe. There isn’t much info about the new smartphone, but it’s said that it features a metal body and will stand higher than the Galaxy S5 in Samsung’s 2014 Android portfolio. Moreover, the Korean publication notes that the Galaxy F could be announced at about the same time with the S5 - possibly in March. It’s unclear if the main difference between the Galaxy F and Galaxy S5 will be related to design only (design based on a metal construction on the former, and on a plastic body on the latter). However, assuming that their specs will be similar, the Galaxy F should be more expensive than the S5 - which, needless to say, will be quite expensive itself. Metal is a poor choice for smartphone and it's heavy, it poses great problems on the antenna design. Plastic phones can be beautiful too, look at the HTC One X for instance (although the plastic design did give it prblems were slight movement in the plastic unibody would slight bend the antenna sprigs which would then greatly reduce signal strenght...) Anyway even a premium metal Samsung phone won't feel premium with their tacky horrible touchwiz interface and their stupid adherence to physical buttons (and in an inconsistant manner at that 2 capacitive 1 mechanical and in the wrong order) Edited January 1, 2014 by ffi Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
