Hi, I would suggest that you go here http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146 and get ESET's uninstallation tool. I would run it and then before trying to re install Smart Security I would make sure that you have Windows Firewall turned off and also Windows Defender turned off also. If you have any other security software installed turn it off. It should not make any difference but I would still turn them off. That is the only suggestion that I have for you. Good luck.

PS: I guess ESET just tells you how to uninstall if one is having problems. Anyway you will find it on the link above.

I have tried all these suggestions and they do not help

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2861

I am trying to install ver 5 eset smart security on to win 7 x64. It gets through the install process up to the point of "starting services" then it will begin to roll back. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Please can you give a screenshot of any error prior to the "rollback"? does it gives you an error message asking you between "retry" and "ignore"? and "retry" is not working so clicking "ignore" forces you to rollback installation process?

tried all of your suggestions, thank you for them, however it still did not complete the installation, it goes thorough the process of installing files, drivers and goes to the point of "starting services" and then it pauses and begins the rollback. I have used the service repair utility and nothing changes.

Why don't you want to install the last v 7 ?

Maybe you'll have not this problem and you'll get a better protection !

I receive the message that my ESET installation ended prematurely

KB Solution ID: SOLN2861|Last Revised: December 13, 2013

Issue
  • "ESET Smart Security installation was ended prematurely"
  • Installation is not successful: "Rolling back action"
  • Base Filtering Engine is missing

Users may receive one of the following messages:

  • "ESET Personal firewall initialization failed"
  • "Services not started"
  • "Virus scanner initialization failed"
  • "The computer has not been restarted after a program uninstallation. Please restart the computer and run the installer again."
  • "An error occurred while starting services. Analysis of application protocols (POP3, HTTP) will not function"
Solution

Check to see if the Base Filtering Engine service is missing
  1. Click Start, type services.msc into the search field and then click services.

  1. If the Base Filtering Engine entry is present, please provide an installation error log to Customer Care to help resolve your issue. If the Base Filtering Engine entry is missing, click the appropriate link below to view instructions for your operating system.

    Windows 8

    Windows XP/Vista/7

Windows XP/Vista: Reinstall the Base Filtering Engine
  1. Download the ESET ServicesRepair utility and save it to your Desktop.
Unable to download "ServicesRepair.exe contained a virus and was deleted"

Your computer may be infected by Sirefef. If you cannot download the tool, follow the steps below:

    1. Click Start icon-rarr_10x9.pngComputer icon-rarr_10x9.pngLocal Disk (C:) icon-rarr_10x9.pngProgram Files.
    2. Right-click the Windows Defender folder and select Rename from the context menu.
    3. Add a unique variation to the filename, such as .old (for example, Windows Defender.old).
    4. See our Knowledgebase article How do I remove Sirefef (ZeroAccess) trojan? for instructions to remove this malware.
    5. After you have removed any malware from your computer, make sure to rename the Windows Defender folder back to its original filename.
  2. Double-click ServicesRepair.exe to run the ESET ServicesRepair utility. If you are using User Access Control, click Run when prompted and then click Yes when asked to allow changes.

  1. Once your computer restarts, install your ESET product using the instructions from the appropriate Knowledgebase article below:
  2. ESET Smart Security Users only: Because the ESET ServicesRepair utility restores the Windows Firewall to on by default, you will need to disable the Windows Firewall to prevent conflicts with the ESET Personal Firewall. For instructions on how to disable the Microsoft Windows Firewall, click the link that corresponds to your operating system from the links below:

If after restoring the Base Filtering Engine and running the ServicesRepair tool you are still unable to complete installation your computer may be infected with Sirefef malware. Visit the following Knowledgebase article for illustrated instructions to remove Sirfef:

Windows 8: Run the ESET SirefefCleaner tool with the /r switch to restore the Base Filtering Engine

The ESET SirefefCleaner tool can restore the Base Filtering Engine in Windows 8 when run using the /r switch. Follow the steps below even if you do not suspect that your system is infected:

  1. Download the ESETSirefefCleaner tool. Click Save at the prompt. The tool will automatically be saved to your Downloads folder.
  2. Press the Windows key + R to open a Run dialog.
  3. Type C:\Users\%username%\Downloads\ESETSirefefCleaner.exe \r (where C is your primary directory and %username% is your Windows username) and click OK.

Figure 3-1

  1. Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.

the only message I get is:

"ESET Smart Security installation was ended prematurely"

I have run the software for Sirefef and it is not on my computer.

I have run the software to repair the Base Filtering Engine.

I have made sure that the Windows firewall is off.

None of this helps, however thank you for your detailed reply, I appreciate your time.

1- If you are already using a fix for ESET (mara-fix, ...), Reboot > Safe Mode > click to run the fix and click "unfix" > restart

2- Uninstall ESET using the normal way if it did not work, Try ESET uninstaller tool from their official website

3- Type: "WIN+R" shortcut to make "Run" appear then type; "regedit" and press enter, Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE > Click-right on ESET folder and delete it

4- Close the window and open ccleaner and Trashreg softwares and do a registry cleaning and restart your PC

5- Install ESET and see if works :)
